Short interview in this week's NME

Mar 01, 2011 22:33

Almost missed this: a mini-interview in this week's NME (cover date 26th Feb 2011). It's with the guy who wrote this amazing preview of Danger Days back in September.

My Chemical Romance are up for a ruck, battling for rock against pop, for art against fame, and for a new, colourful, daring aesthetic.

NME is just annoying, I can't get over pretty much all of their...themness. But IDK, it's weird to see those album sales next to TBP because they seem...really good. Especially after three months. I'd love to know the source of that number, it must be from the subscription services as it's been quoted as that by a couple news sources now. But really...that's a great number. If it continues to sell steadily and produce some more good singles it's going to reach TBP numbers in no time.

But other than that, I loved Gerard's answer to that question. It WAS a moment in time, you can't keep reaching for what was. Of course they want to sell albums and be successful but they make more off of tours and merch anyway, I'm not sure how concerned they need to be (framing that as if DD sales were terrible). The market is different and I think the band are doing a great job moving with it.

But what an uncomfortable, tense read.

Thank you for the scans!

Maybe read it! I can't tell if it's just me reacting to you know...how much NME annoys me or if it's a genuinely tense interview. There's some good quotes in there.

But yes, the picture is gorgeous.

Anyone trying to say that sale numbers for Danger Days are bad when comparing it to an album that was released in 2006 is a fucking moron, or is trying to push a narrative. The number I've heard over and over for how many copies TBP sold is 3 million, over four and a half years - if DD is at 1.2 million after three months, that's fucking fantastic, seriously ( ... )

Yeah, that's the lack of logic that stood out to me as well. I mean seriously 1.2 million in 3-4 months verses 3 million in 4 years seems like a really fantastic comparison, not the way they framed it earlier in the article ( ... )

And I can't even get that annoyed over the description of them looking like gay motorcross drivers, because well. It's not really inaccurate.

Haha, right? BASICALLY.

But yeah, the rest of the article was pure crap, almost as if they're trying to rile the fanbase all over again. Let it GO, NME. Let it the fuck GO.

Everything you have said.

TBP sold more than that, and DD is doing... actually pretty fantastic.

And, well. Yeah. GAY MOTORCROSS DRIVERS. WHO WANT TO SLEEP WITH MEN FOR MONEY.
