LOVE THESE SONGS! Also, missing you guys big time, glad we have something to discuss again! These songs have been on repeat for the last 24 hours of course.
Boy Division is my favorite of the two. What a jam, it just kicks off so hard. Reminds me a lot of a Mad Gear song during the verses, then the chorus. The chorus is rad, obviously, but it's similarities to "We Don't Need Another Song About California" confuses me. It's not that I don't like it, it just raises a lot of questions about those 2 songs and I'd rather not have to think so hard when I'm listening to music. I'm assuming Boy Division came first, and after it was scrapped they decided to recycle the California lyrics thinking BD wouldn't get released. It's cool though, it just makes me curious. Then you get the "we got the bomb" line at the end that ended up in Vampire Money and I get confused again. But it all works so well in this song. The breakdown reminds me of BYOB by System of a Down. LA LA LA LUH! Haha! I just love the urgency of this song. Next time they play a live show, they should open with this one. Pair it with Na Na Na and you've got a fuckin' party.
Tomorrow's Money is an interesting one. I think because Boy Division caught me so much that I haven't really thought about this one a lot. I like it a ton! The chorus is a different vibe than I'd expect from MCR. It makes me understand a little bit more about all the things they've said about the direction this album was supposed to go in. Stripped down punk jams.
This whole 5 month release schedule is going to be torture! Especially when the songs they're releasing just keep you shouting for more. Number One definitely set the bar pretty high for the other songs!
The same happened to me with "Boy Division" and "We Don't Need Another Song About California", it was rather confusing. But I arrived to the same conclusion. Since at that moment they felt like those songs would never see the light of day, they recycled some things. It's probable that we'll recognize more stuff that was used in Danger days on the other CW songs.
