I think that it was to "cheer up" the festival audience, since they were the only rock band at that day and they chose a song that was more vibrant to get the audience's attention...
I love Vampire Money as an opener! What was the opener you always wanted, Matty? Save Yourself? It would be fun to hear them begin to change up that beginning BAM part of the set.
Oh gosh, of course, Save Yourself would be a baller opener. It reminds me a lot of Disappear and they opened with that for a good 6 months straight
I !!!!!!'d for a full ten seconds because 1. I never thought to make that comparison (but you're so so right) and 2. I just got all excited because NO ONE ever talks about Disappear and it's legit one of my favorite songs off that album (much like how Save Yourself is one of my favorites off this album).
It did sound good as opener but despite seeing them do it 5 times nothing ever stops the chills in my spine as "Look Alive Sunshine" starts and you are waiting for that curtain to drop (wait have they been using the curtain, I've not really been following the US tour, stupid exams).
I agree, I just love Na Na Na as opener too much, especially 'cause of the intro, it's just perfect for that. For the Radio 1 thing, since they played it it later the "Look Alive Sunshine" was left out.
They might keep Vampire Money as opener for festivals, though.
I'm thinking Vampire Money may pop up as the opener time and time again now that it's been tried.

... and it was a nice choice.

But even though it seems stale, Na Na Na works best as an opener and I don't think it would work as well anywhere else but first.
