I assume they were interviewing a siesmologist about the recent earthquake off the California coast. I overheard the reporter say "tsunami" before I ducked into the wee shop just next to them to get my Utz Crab Chip fix.
I realize it was spiffy to have the two siesmographs that were part of a display behind them, but they could have picked a location that had less foot traffic. The aforementioned shop gets a lot of business, particularly before it closes at 4pm, so there were a lot of people walking by as they were shooting. Curiously they had posted a sign that cautioned "interview in progress, please be quiet" just beyond the stairway door where people like me would blunder in, not see it, and continue on to the shop. If they truly desired "quiet" they could have selected a better area. It's such a beautiful day, they could have had the interview just outside and off to the side of the main walkway well away from pedestrians.
In any case, I'm not surprised to have overheard "tsunami" since this panders to MSM's infatuation with fear peddling. Ghu forbid they cover something important like the
Downing Street Memos and its recently outed sibling British briefing papers.
