Technically, yes. However, it's a sport which goes well with beer... I've drifted into the habit of playing darts the past few Fridays. This has actually worked out quite well; I'm getting a lot better, quite fast. I'm also getting a lot better at scoring the games; it's a good way to keep my brain working, since I have to multiply, add and then subtract fast.
Tonight, I managed something I've never done before; I doubled out!
See, the scoring rules are quite wrinkly; it seems simple, what with the 20 sectors scoring the appropriate numbers of point, plus outer and inner bull, but then the doubles and trebles come along, and the nasty rule is that you need to a) reach zero EXACTLY and b) do so by scoring a double. Usually, in the casual games I play, we end up getting frustrated as neither player can double out, and just go for three darts each, closest to the bull wins. Tonigh, in the third leg, Rob doubled out. Then I did, rather more impressively; I forget the score offhand, but I had a double to make and missed, leaving me an odd number, which I evened out, and then made the required double with my last dart; and in the final throw of the night, I had 32 to make, and centred the double 16 perfectly, with a dart to spare. Still not doubled out from double one, but that'll come with time.
I like playing darts. It's a fun way to relax at the end of the week. Becoming good at it is a nice bonus.
