I finally got to watch Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence last night. It's a very nice movie. I realized something kind of interesting in that by living in a boring part of the US that is completely not cyberpunk at all, it makes movies like this just that much more surreal. If you actually live in Tokyo or Shanghai or Hong Kong or Taipei, you'd have to rely on the story and the robots to carry a much larger share of the appeal, because the setting is, well, right outside your window.
In fact, if you are indeed living in any of those places, and you're reading this, for crap sake stop boring yourself. Lock your computer and go outside and try to find that idiot taxi driver with the Stallone movies playing on the dashboard. It's a Toyota Altus with a flat right rear tire. ¥1000 says he still hasn't gotten that fixed. Get him to take you to that Soviet place with the flaming chocolate domes.
Typically when I watch anime movies late at night, I can always count on getting some absurdly awesome dreams when I go to bed. This did not happen last night. The only dream I had, I was watching TV and saw my old cycling coach on a kids' tv show. It was one of those power ranger type things, except educational. In the dream, I was so amazed I had to check IMDB and sure enough, it was her, and credited multiple times with her name spelled different ways. Upon waking up, I checked IMDB and to the best of my knowledge and on-line research abilities, she has never been on a TV show, and certainly not one of power ranger quality.
dreams,
