Saturday is going to be... interesting.
First off the
2nd Battalion of the Mercian regiment, who are marching. Our soldiers are courageous and deserve support for having to fight with limited resources a war in hostile terrain against opponents who show considerable tenacity. The fact that six months of our petrol money for it could rebuild Afghanistan back to pre-war levels bothers me. The Americans and Russians spent ten years in Afghanistan to achieve nothing. We'd better have some really good intel this time, for the sake of our soldiers.
Then there's the
English Defence League who'll be marching along Castle Boulevard. Oh and they're meeting at the Wetherspoons near the station. They've already tried blaming Nazi salutes on ringers and are appealing for sunscreen and water. I know some feel the EDL are an oppressed minority, yet their protests against Islam are eerily similar to anti-Semitic propaganda. Poor little lambs. It's telling they're being asked by their organisers to leave when their march is over. Go home, your villages are worried about you maybe?
In protest of the second, there's the
Unite Against Fascism protest, now moved to
Gala Casino, Maid Marion Way with heavy police escort.
Oh, and did we mention a Forest match with Leicester? Really, if you hate crowds, don't go to Nottingham this Saturday.
