X-7 reboot and the news mashup

I'd like to propose the concept of news mashup. Take two stories with a common theme (say, pirates) and then come up with some way of bringing them together. I see this as the mass media equivalent of the large hadron collider which could either illustrate something new or draw us into a black hole of reality TV. No wait, we're there already. And yes I know Have Your Say isn't news but the Pirate Bay sentence is. So, having a bunch of crack Dutch commandos going in to jailbreak the Pirate Bay organisers. Surely no amusement in that, is there?
Mind you, the real news is scary enough, with footballers being given Viagra, I may never step into a nightclub ever again.
