Why not now?

So here is what is in my heart. I have been deeply moved by many of the videos in the "It Gets Better" project. I've never been gay and in public school, but I have been a victim of bullying in the public school system and it totally did "get better" as soon as I got out of public school ( Read more... )

I'm totally with you.

... now if only children didn't seem to be occasionally evil by nature
... if only parents would get more involved in thier kids roles, responsibilities, actions, etc
... if only schools took much of this more seriously than they currently did
... if only kids didn't have to contend with the fact that they may be stabbed, shot, beat to death, and/or otherwise torured physically and/or mentally at school, on the way to school, on the way home from school
... if only teachers took action with kids who don't actually know the curriculum or in some cases how to even read instead of passing them through.

I was lucky. I had a great school system. I had a great education. Bad news, I am a mutant (so to speak). I have six toes on each foot and the extra toe is webbed to my baby toe. the result I have sort of heart shaped pinkie toes. I was commonly referred to as the six toed sloth. Add to that the fact that I was more interested in showing horses and dinking around in the art room than partying with the cool kids, and I was put in an odd spot. I got through school, but I have always been an agressive person. I didn't get into a fight, but aparentl I'm scary. LOL (I found this out after high school and about laughed my ass off. I, she who never got into a physical fight in school, was a bad ass. uh-huh)

I didn't grow up in a school system that had cops, metal detectors, and I wasn't worried about being shot, stabbed, or really even beat up at school/after school/etc.

They do now. They have cops, metal detectors, and I think that is sad.

I think a lot of reform needs to happen in our schools, and I am 100% with you. I also think in conjunction with said reform we need to reform many parents as well.
