What if everything around you isn't quite as it seems?

What the fuck is wrong with television commercials these days? I was sitting around in the living room, flipping between some IFC movie and some other cable channels and suddenly a disturbing commercial comes on in which a white woman (with a butch 1990's haircut) is filtering through her purse in a crowded public bathroom, searching for her, as it turns out to be, Ex-lax. Suddenly, a crazy-looking black woman comes up to her and explains the follies of using Ex-lax, an unreliable laxative that causes cramping as she puts it. The black woman then suggests that the white woman use a brand of laxatives called "Phillips" in order to prevent those uncomfortable feelings that Ex-lax produces. The white woman agrees to use it and the two women exit the bathroom together talking and laughing while the logo flashes on the screen.

...

Are women really this friendly in public restrooms? More importantly, this is on at 1:00 P.M. on a weekday afternoon, meaning there's nobody watching this but bored housewives and slacker college students who have the day off with nothing better to do. I'm damn positive this wasn't marketed toward my demographic.

If some creepy guy came up to me and told me that the brand of laxatives I used would cause internal problems, I probably would not be hanging around him too much, especially if he flashes a different brand with a cheesy smile.

What am I rambling about? Jesus...
