“When you know you’re licked before you begin, but you begin anyway, and you see it through no matter what.” This line, spoken by Atticus Finch, clearly describes the over all attitude of Atticus. He is my favorite character mainly because he is the most respected and most humble character in Macomb. As well as being a very good roll model, he is also the best father that any child could ask for.
Being respected and humble about it is hard enough, but Atticus makes it look very easy. He never boasts in himself and never expected praise or a thank you for accepting Tom Robinsons’ case. He even expected to receive a bit of criticism for his act of good will. To add to that Mr. Finch is probably the most educated man in Macomb, but still does not use his smarts to gain any kind of advantage or leverage over anybody. Finally, Atticus is my favorite character in Macomb because: Jem and Scout seem to be embarrassed with Atticus’s lack of ability to play games or sports like the other childrens parents. Even though Atticus knows this he still does not seem to mind. He simply explains it to Jem and Scout.
My favorite scene so far would have to be in Chapter 8. Miss Maudies house was burning down and Scout only had a bath robe on. When every thing has been quieted down, scout notices that she has a extra blanket around her. She had no idea how it got there or who put it on her. Scout soon realizes that Boo had come out to see the fire as well as everyone else. Boo Radley had draped the blanket around her to keep her from getting cold. I think this scene shows that Boo is not at all mean or at all crazy; only, that he likes to be left alone. This scene also shows that Boo likes the kids and would never harm them, despite what everyone thinks about him.
Atticus Finch is: a well respected and humble man of Macomb county, one of the most lovable characters in this book, and my favorite character. Realizing that Boo isn’t so mean and monstrous as everyone thinks is a very important part of the book. This scene is my most favorite so far in this book.
