writing and reading update

This is cool! Now I remember what's good about being part of a writing community: It gets you writing!

Went to hear a couple of English Department creative-writing types read tonight at Henry's (upstairs where you can get booze). Good stuff! Also, the organizer announced that the next reading will be on Sunday, March 5, also at the same place, and that she needed a couple more people to read.

Well, heck, I thought. I have something that's almost ready to read! So I volunteered to read and am scheduled for that day.

Chatted with folks for a while, then zoomed the little VW convertible (still for sale, hence I'm trying to drive it around so lots of folks can see it) up to my office, promptly sat down and perused my notes on something, then dove in and wrote a couple thousand words. Just printed it out!

I'm going to use this as part of my MFA application, by the way. (Oh, yeah, I've decided to go for my "terminal degree" so as to help the Department Chair argue for my permanence here, and an MFA is terminal. Heh heh.) It's not SF; in fact, it's fictional autobiography, prompted by Andy Duncan and, well, life.

(I searched all through my LJ but couldn't find the post where I put part of it up to garner criticism from y'all; if you recall where it was, I'd appreciate the date so I can read your comments from when it was first under way.)

So, I'll be reading this new thing in about three weeks. Wanna hear me read? It'll be the first time in a long while, and I'd love to see you there!

Hope y'all're well,
Chris
