Finn had a hard time deciding what he wanted to be for Halloween. Or actually, Quinn had a hard time deciding what she would let Finn be for Halloween because the tall boy had many ideas but none of them really meshed with Quinn’s… thoughts on the matter? First he wanted to be Finn from this show Adventure Time but the blonde said no and that he shouldn’t even be watching cartoons at his age. Then he thought about going as Harry Potter but that was apparently an affront to Jesus and the entire Christian religion so that was out the window also. He went through about fifteen more costumes before he gave up and went with a simple toga outfit that seemed to be perfectly acceptable to his girlfriend ( ... )

Quinn quickly cut short her "if you look at me I will literally burn holes through you" session when Finn approached, and she quickly feigned a smile as she looked up at him, never failing to be touched by the sentiment Finn somehow remembered to come up with - she hadn't eaten a kit kat since long before the beginning of the summer, and yet he had remembered it.

"Fine," She said more harshly than intended as she took the candy from his hand, peeling off the wrapper with more force than necessary before she shoved it into her mouth. She was undoubtedly going to be sorry for this.

Quinn shoving almost a whole candy bar in her mouth didn’t do anything to ease Finn’s confusion, it only helped intensify it because the action went against basically everything the blonde girl believed in. He had only ever seen her do it once before in the tenor of their relationship and that was a dark and scary day for everyone involved. Russet eyes turned to fish out Ferrari for a second, wondering what the two of them could have talked about to put his girlfriend in her current mood.

“Are you sur--” He cut himself off at the look she gave him, not wanting to be on the receiving end of her temper. Grabbing a snickers from his pocket, the tall boy fiddled around with the wrapper for a few seconds before choosing not to open it and instead attempting to converse with Quinn again. “Wanna dance? Or get some punch, or something?”

Quinn crunched viciously at the candy bar as she shot Finn a warning look as he went to speak. She crossed one arm across her chest and let the other lay out, rolling the wrapper into a tiny ball between her fingers as she thought. She bit her lip as she gazed at the ground.

"Whatever you want to do," She was trying to be accommodating, but Quinn feared it came out harsher than she'd intended - more like an accusation. She smiled up at him halfheartedly. "Are you having fun?"

“We could do whatever.” Finn shrugged, trying to be causal while watching his girlfriend intently. She was definitely mad about something, and that something had to do with Ferrari and Mercedes-- he at least knew that much. Which was more than he usually did so Finn felt a head of the game at this point. “I guess I’m having fun. Lots of food and candy. Some people have really cool costumes. You should see Santana’s, it’s like she’s not even wearing--” He thought better of continuing that thought. “wearing that great of a costume. It‘s dumb.”

The tall boy nodded in agreement with himself, looking around for a few seconds before turning his attention back onto Quinn, coming to decision all of a sudden. He reached out for her hand and started to tug her towards the middle of the dance floor. “Come on, let’s dance.” Finn was a pretty terrible dancer but it was currently a slow song and he felt confident enough in his swaying abilities. Plus he knew the blonde liked to dance so hopefully it would help her get over whatever was making her

"Good," She said quietly, glancing around the gym distractedly. "That's good." She caught side of Kurt, sitting alone at his table across the room, and swallowed as she focused back on the boy in front of her, speaking about Santana's 'costume'. She looked up to see him nodding and scoffed at the boy's sudden change change of heart, rolling her eyes as her smile slowly became more genuine.

In an instant, her hand was in his and she was being pulled from the side of the gym by the boy, a gesture she appreciated far more than she would outwardly express. She couldn't help but grin at his effort, and when he finally stopped she walked up to him, looping her arms around his neck and laying her head against what she'd intended to be his shoulder but what was more accurately his chest due to the boy's height, and closed her eyes. They swayed for a moment or two before Quinn spoke. "Hey, Finn?"

This is nice, Finn thought while the two of them swayed back forth amongst a number of their classmates, his arms coming to wrap around her tiny waist. Russet eyes searched around the gym, finding a number of people he knew while he sort of spaced out a bit. It was a rare occasion when it wasn’t him who was the target of Quinn’s anger and he wasn’t quite sure what to do. Usually he would just say sorry but here she wouldn’t tell him what happened so he just had to try and cheer her up somehow. This was the start of his plan, he’d have to think more on what else he could do.

“Hm?” The sound of Quinn’s voice hitting the air around them bought him back out of his daze for a second, chin still resting on top of her head. Finn pulled his girlfriend in tighter while they continued to dance. “What’s up?”

Quinn felt uneasy as they swayed, her eyes switching between either being closed completely or darting around the room. It wasn't just that she felt uncomfortable, but she felt vulnerable - something she would never learn to take well.

She bit her lip and inhaled sharply before she spoke, an oddly fluttery feeling in her stomach. She moved to rest her elbows on his shoulders now, nearly standing on her tip toes. With any luck, the tighter she latched onto Finn, the more likely she was to just disappear. "You...I mean, you know I love you, right?"

Standing there and waiting for her answer-- there was this weird charge in the air all of a sudden, a shift in the mood Finn could easily feel pushing at him. It was vaguely uncomfortable and he wished it would go away as fast as it had come.

And then she said something he hadn’t been expecting at all. “Huh?” Was all he could get out for a few seconds, confusion apparent in his tone and on his face, causing deep wrinkles in his forehead. Of course he knew she loved him, even if she never really said it or anything. He just… knew for some reason. It was a universal truth he never thought to question because there was never any reason too. Finn bent over slightly so that she didn’t have to lean up so far, russet eyes met jade ones and earnestness filtered through his voice. “Yeah I know, babe. I love you too. Why?”

Quinn was almost always sure that Finn was honest with her, and so she should have believed him when he said he knew. But she was also always sure that Finn wanted to make her happy and avoid her temper overflowing, and if that meant agreeing with her, he would. She swallowed, tensing slightly and moving to face him, falling back onto her heels.

"I just..." Her eyes moved from his to a spot on the gym wall that came close to the ceiling. "I know I don't really say it, but that doesn't mean that I don't, you know? And I don't...want you to think that."

Quinn wasn't really that awesome at sharing her feelings.

Okay, so now she was kind of freaking him out and Finn’s stomach churned with the need to go find the two girls and ask them what they had said that caused this change in her mood because when Quinn and him got to the dance-- she was her normal self; making sure both of them looked their best and were presentable. Now the blonde was staring off somewhere behind him and looking like she was going to break. It was definitely a look he didn’t like at all.

“Quinn, what’s going on? What happened?” When the girl didn’t answer, he stood there awkwardly for a few moments, not really sure how to fix whatever was wrong with his girlfriend until he decided to pull away slightly. He took one arm from her waist and bought his hand to her face, callous fingertips hesitantly grazing her chin and redirecting her attention back onto him. “I know you love me.” Assurance drenched his tone, pausing to wet his lips. “You don’t have to say it all the time. I know.”

This was quite possibly the worst feeling the Cheerio could ever have - that of weakness. Every time she inhaled her stomach did a small flip. She certainly couldn't find it in her to respond to Finn's question, because she was too afraid that she'd start crying - and that could never happen.

As they moved in silence, the girl swallowed and tried to chase away the burning in her eyes. She felt Finn's fingertips across her skin, Quinn bit her lip while the boy forced her to meet his eyes. "I'm fine," she said emphatically, shaking her head more than really necessary. "It's fine. I just wanted you to know."

Finn rarely ever got mad-- you know like, truly mad. So angry that you can feel it burning under your skin like that scratch you just can’t itch. It wasn’t who he was. He was simple, a pretty carefree guy and it took a lot to get him to that certain point but one of the fastest ways to do it was mess with his girlfriend. Seeing Quinn so… un-composed had him a inept mixture of angry and lost in equal parts and it was getting worse with every passing second.

“You don’t seem fine, babe.” He commented back just as forcefully. Or well maybe not too forcefully because even in a situation like this, Finn knew not to challenge the status quo. She had trained him pretty well. His hand finally dropped from her face but he still held the eye contact. “What did you and Ferarri talk about?”

Quinn toyed with the idea of telling Finn what had happened - the questioning of their relationship, of her talent, of her allegiance to God. It was on the tip of her tongue, willing itself to come pouring out of her all at once, and she bit her lip to fight it back. It could very well have been bleeding by now, she didn't really care. But by now she had determined that Halloween officially blew.

By now, Quinn could tell that she'd let things eat away at her far too much - they were starting to effect Finn, too. She closed her eyes. "Please don't worry about it. It's just...something stupid, and it doesn't matter."

Finn kept staring down at the blonde, hoping that the longer they made eye contact that she give in and tell him what was wrong. Because something was obviously wrong, even he could see that. A small part of him was becoming annoyed that she refused to tell him since she was always talking about being open with one and other (and Jesus) yet here she was holding back. It was only a small part though because mostly he was just worried that she was going to start crying.

“If it’s making you sad-- it matters, babe. You know you can tell me anything. Besides I’m gonna worry anyway.” He nodded more to himself than to her before he broke their gaze and shot a few glances around the gym, pulling away completely from his girlfriend yet taking the blonde’s hand quickly in the next moment. “Come on, let’s go get some fresh air or something.” The tall boy pulled Quinn along gently, towards the exit doors.

Quinn followed Finn's suit, shooting a few wary glances, teeth clamped on her bottom lip before she nodded quickly. She held his hand as she followed behind him, meeting the doors and the quiet of the hallway. The doors closed slowly behind them, leaving them essentially alone, except for a few teachers near the doors, checking the tickets of those who came late. Quinn crossed her arms and looked at them momentarily before she met eyes with Finn again.

"That..." Quinn closed her eyes, remembering that this was Finn she was speaking to. "Ferrari apparently had some choice words for me that she's been keeping bottled up and decided that tonight would be the night to share her feelings," The girl spat, her temper seeping into her tone as she raised the back of her hand to her eye quickly, catching a stray tear. "And then Mercedes came at me, defending Hummel for throwing himself at Sam and doubting my allegiance to God, and I hate Halloween."
