"Yes, you are," Santana said, just as firmly. She was sure of this. Did he not know she could read him like an open freaking book right now? "You're scared that it won't last again. I think...you might almost want to believe he's back. But you can't 'cause of the past or whatever. So, you're scared."
The knowledge of how damn right she was served to piss Puck off, but he didn't want her to leave, so he said nothing but, "Whatever, San." His hand curled gently into her hair, and he sighed just a little.
"He won't stay," Puck said finally. "He never does. Why would he start now?"
"Like I said, maybe he's manning up. Maybe he's realized he's been a huge piece of shit and actually wants to fix it. Talk to him and find out," Santana suggested.
A part of Puck gave in to the flicker of hope that she might be right. "I'm gonna be a good guy, San," he said, trying to convince himself as much as, if not more than her. "When I have kids, they're gonna know who I am... I'm gonna be a real dad." He didn't know why he was telling her this, but he needed someone to know.
He had to laugh just a little at that, if for no other reason than he was drunk. "Yep. That's for damn sure." He laughed. "And you're gonna be a great mom, cuz you're already good at tucking in drunk kids," he said. Somewhere in his mind, that had made sense, but once it was vocalized, he wasn't so sure.
Santana couldn't help laughing at that, curling up a little closer to him. "If my kids come home drunk, I will kill them," she said, surprising even herself. "I guess I'm gonna be a strict mom, too."
He grinned. This was what Santana was best at. Pulling him out of his funks. Well... that and some really tricky shit in bed. But that was beside the point. "So... if I was your kid, you'd kill me a lot, huh?"
"Totally," Santana smirked, rapping her knuckles against his head. "And you'd totally deserve it." She kissed his forehead. "You should sleep. You're drunk."
Puck smirked at her. "Yeah... Yeah, you're probably right."
Her gentle kiss soothed him, and he nodded. "Yeah... OK." He cuddled her closer and closed his eyes, ready to go to sleep. "Don't leave, San," he said again, before he finally dozed off.
