Who: Rachel Berry + whoever.
What: A (very rare) day off.
Where: Downtown Lima.
When: Saturday afternoon.
Rating: Family-friendly for now.
Normally, Saturday afternoons were Rachel's chance to play catch up on any personal responsibilities she may have ignored over the past few days. She usually used the extra hours in her schedule (ones that refreshingly weren't filled up with dance classes or vocal lessons or rehearsals or personal improvement) to practice her Hebrew with her dads or create contingency plans for the various undergraduate programs and conservatories she would be applying to. The meaning of a "day off" was usually lost on her - Rachel claimed that a day of rest, while a very thoughtful gesture of the Lord's, made her feel uncomfortably complacent. She, after all, was a firm advocate of not resting on one's laurels.
But occasionally, enough would be enough and her dads would veto any and all attempts at progress on a Saturday afternoon. On days like these, the traditional itinerary would have her walking the streets of Columbus, eating at her favorite restaurant (a new-wave, vegan-friendly cafe known affectionately as The Loving Hut) and eventually coming home with big-city stars in her eyes and books and books of sheet music under her arms. Unfortunately for Rachel, this weekend happened to be the same weekend that her dads were, respectively, out of town and under the weather.
So she'd settled for an afternoon trip downtown, iPod filled with her personal theme music as she methodically walked up and down each street, stepping into each store that seemed promising. She hadn't bought much yet, just a small pendant necklace from a secondhand boutique and a plaid skirt from a favorite clothing store. Now she simply walked the street, lost in her own thoughts as she tried to remember where the music store was.
