Somehow I missed this on my sga_santa run, and boy did I regret it!!
This was a really beautiful story that made me cry several times over. I love how you developed such rich backgrounds for John and Rodney, especially the symbolism of the kites. I don't know if you've ever read any of Jamie O'Neill's writing, but your writing really resonates with his pensive and introspective voice, along with a seascape that's far beyond any earthly beauty. I highly recommend you read his At Swim, Two Boys if you haven't already done so. You'll see what I mean by how alike your respective stories are.
Oh, thank you so much! I'm glad their backgrounds felt rich: it surprised me, honestly, how well the kite thing fit John.
No, I haven't ever read him. It sounds like I should! I will look for that book, thanks for the rec. The book I *had* read, some time ago, that ended up being pulled in a bit, though in a very tangential way, is Kite Runner.
Hee, completely understand. We all do that sometimes -- there's limited time, and we have to sort through what we're in the mood to read, etc. There's no time limit on reading fic, anyway.:)
Aww, you're too kind. This was my first sga au, so it's probably...a bit different than my other stuff? I really, really enjoyed writing it. I'm thrilled that they felt real to you -- I wanted them to feel that way. Thanks for commenting!
