Student schedule's are getting finalized this week, so I took a sneak peek to see the schedule for one of my students. This is a kid who I had his freshman year, he came to be when he wanted to get help getting clean from his drug issues, we talked about his depression issues, needless to say, we've got history. That sounds like a worry for a guidance counselor. How about you express your concerns to the counselor, and ask for he/she to use his/her best judgment for the kid?

It's nice to know the student always has you to talk to if he needs someone. I think it would be crossing a line for you to pull strings when you don't know if it would even be beneficial or even if the student would feel comfortable you doing that on his behalf.

You may also approach those teachers and express your concerns. They may be far more willing to keep an extra eye on him than you assume

I agree - try this first, and then if it doesn't work, talk to the guidance counselor.
