Finally some pictures from İstanbul.
It was really cold, so I didn't take very many (because the weather affects my photographic skill?), so they stayed in my camera until I took some more pictures and developed them all.
The 'other pictures' are from a horse race I went to with my family one day. They're the two at the end.
Bergama/Pergamon
Near the best modern hospital of the ancient world (paradox?)
Mentally ill patients would walk through this tunnel to get to the place where they were treated by the doctors. There was water running behind the walls to calm them. Throughout the whole hospital, (campus, library and theatre included) there was a series of fountains all fueled by a natural spring. The noise of the water was theraputic. This being quite a modern hospital, they treated people's mental problems of any size by having the patients participate in theatre, listen to lectures, walk around the beautiful campus, and by listening to the patients' dreams.
The part of the hospital where the analysis occured was a big round building. It was round so that the patient would be able to walk around and around it while thinking about their problems and then go to sleep inside. Upon awakening, the patient would describe all dreams to the doctors who would then make their recommendations.
The town of Çanakkale at night. Right by Troy.
Troy. Not much to see there. A lot of really destroyed cities built on top of each other. Looks like a bunch of rocks and fields.
A 5,000 or so year old unbelievably preserved gift from Egypt to İstanbul.
Sultan Ahmet Camii
Hayasofya, which has been both a church ans a mosque, and has the Virgin Mary and the arabic symbol for Allah on the same wall.
and is the tallest mosque in İstanbul
And the horse race:
You can expect some exciting pictures. Some from this festival where they throw Manisa mesir macunu (Turkish viagra) from the roof of the mosque, and some more from this little village called Kula with really colorful houses and people. All is well, wishing the same.
