It's Been a Beautiful Ride

Ao, I know I haven't written in like 21 months but really that's not such a long time. I mean like an elephant can't even give birth in that amount of time and if that is the case it really can't be that long. But in this short time a lot has happened. I moved out of Pearl Lane and that was sad. Then Danny and I moved into the Octagon on 911 or whatever you want to call it. I say 911 because one side was nonagon shaped and the other side was 11 sided which I can't remember what that is called. I was Lt. Cable in Eric Kallin presents South Pacific sponsored by the Orange County Players.

I just have to take a second and reminisce about this hilarious Opera guy who was playing Emile. He was deaf in one ear or something and so he would always hold his hand beside his head when he was singing like Mariah Carrey only not nearly as cool or hot. He also had this really exaggerated fake Italian opera singer accent whenever he spoke. Anyways, this dud was a total doucher and like two days before the show was set to open he called line during a run through and when Eric wouldn't give him his line he got mad and stomped off stage. He then packed up all his make-up. (Also he refused to share a dressing room with the rest of us guys in the cast.) As he was leaving he turned to me in his Placido Domingo voice and said "you tell Daryl and Eric I'm leaving and I'ma not coming backa!"

Anyways, that was a fun show. Then came the fall and I was in Secret Garden in my dream role Archiblad. I got to work with a lot of really cool people and meet lots of amazing actors including Maddie Taylor the most amazing child actor I have ever seen including myself when I used to act as a child.

Short hilarious story: When I was in Mame, I was like eight and in this one scene I am suppose to run out with this turban and toy sword and other stuff that Mame has given me and say "Hey, mom and dad, look at all the wonderful stuff that auntie mame gave me." only one night I forgot to put on the turbin or remember the sword and I just ran out on stage very excited and said "Hey, mom and Dad look at all the wond....Auntie Mame..."

Anyways, Secret Garden was cool. And just one last time I would like to say I am so sorry Caitlin K. had to wear that costume.

So, after Secret Garden things got a little weird. Danny and I got into a big fight. I decided to move out. Then Danny moved out instead. Then the person I had to replace Danny flaked. Then I moved out of the Octagon and into an apartment at Village West with Cindy and Lori's step brother in law twice removed Keivan and his fiancé Kate. We really had some good times there even if Cindy does like to walk around the house naked most of the time. You can't blame her. I know those old habits are hard to brake. In the Spring Lori directed a show for Company Carolina and then after we cleaned up from all those pigs freezing in mid air because of hell freezing over we all had a really good time. The show was really good. Haley was amazing, Andrew was amazing and did some hilarious parodies of Epiphany involving "one fish, blue fish." Brett was pretty creepy as the mast attractive 70 year old pedophile ever. Jess was exceptional as Hermione Granger and the always amazing Nick Culp actually caused me to poop my pants I was laughing so hard.

Then Brett, Lori, Cindy and I performed Larame to the most responsive 11 people who have ever been in an audience. It was a really great experience. I wish more people had seen it.

Then Brett, Jenna and I performed in Johanna Zelman's Uncle Morty's Funeral which sold out every performance. We had a really good time filled with plenty of snacks and midnight skinny-dipping.

Sadly, after that I said goodbye to Chapel Hill, my heart personified in a city and moved to Raleigh where I lived with a diver and a swimmer from NCSU. Lots of Karaoke and drinking and movies and….

Flash forward to now: I'm in New York. It took two years but here I am. No acting work yet but I am always hopeful. I live in Brooklyn in little Trinidad under a dance studio I think. I work for a rocawear design firm to pay the bills. I marvel at just how hilarious and rediculous people in New York can be and I miss NC but I do have one thing that keeps me cheerful: my loving beautiful, intelligent and most importantly hilarious girlfriend Lori who is by far the biggest and the best change in my life in the past 21 months. She is my anchor and I know we are going to make it....especially if we could get some of our talented friends to get off the pot and move up here to NYC. Brett, Danny, Jon Beal, Tristan that means you. So, I guess that's it. A lot has happened since I graduated from College. Some of it good, some of it bad. A lot of it very hilarious. When I look back on all that has happened I am reminded of something my old pappy always used to say “that which doesn't kill us just makes us more susceptible to bear attack!

Be seeing you.
Jon Todd

And thank you for Obama.
