In praise of... the wireless (medium)

I've just discovered the WRN Broadcast radio station. It should act as a good counterweight to the BBC World Service, which I've been listening to a lot more often than Radio 4 the past few months. I grew up on the World Service in Oman, and I listened to it while I was at uni in Canada, but I substituted it with Radio 4 and 5 live when I moved here because I didn't have a DAB Radio. Now that smartphone and tablet apps like BBC Radio, Radioplayer and TuneIn have reached an awesome level of sophistication, they have all but eliminated the necessity of a DAB Radio. It's now possible to record, set a timer, and an alarm, to just about every radio station in the world. And for the past few weeks, I've even been able to listen to all the BBC TV stations as an audio stream, including the indomitable BBC Four. Which is rather nifty because I'd also started listening to a lot of Radio 2 since the latter-half of last year. And the idea of a station mixing the best of Radio 2 and Radio 4 seemed quite appealing - but out of reach. However, listening to BBC Four as an audio stream late at night comes nearest to fulfilling that particular pipe dream. And what's more, I can leave the TV mains switched-off most of the time. The more things change...

(Please do recommend any other/cool radio stations, specific programmes, podcasts that you listen to, apps that you use, and/or websites.)
