I arrived back from my travels yesterday afternoon. And I thought I'd get started with a video that I've watched at least a few dozen times. It combines my favourite cricketer with my favourite sports commentator, both of whom provided me with the maximum satisfaction as a young Indian cricket fan. I was fourteen when these two innings were played, yet thanks to this video among others on YouTube, it just feels like it was yesterday. The second innings happened to fall on Tendulkar's twenty-fifth birthday. Dad and I were still bouncing off walls after the first century, that we faxed an A4 sheet of birthday greetings that I prepared on MS Word, to the hotel where the team was staying. We have absolutely no idea whether Sachin saw the fax or not, but we'd like to think he did and that it played its little role in pumping him up for the final. It wasn't the World Cup but it was a final against arguably the best team then in world cricket. Needless to say, we won. And it was sweet. But without Greigy's commentary it wouldn't have been complete. Thanks for the memories Tony.
