Aggers is this week's castaway and I'm sure the podcast will brighten up the usual commute, tomorrow morning.

Last summer I posted a list of all the Asian castaways, a dataset not searchable on the DIDA website. In comparison, castaways from the world of cricket are searchable, however, I have still chosen to list them below. For some reason, ( Read more... )

Yes, the trend is very noticeable. And there hasn't been a single current player since 1991. I wonder if the decline applies to all sport-related personalities, or just to cricket.

Heh. So here's the breakdown by sport:

Cricket - 25
Athletics - 15
Sailing - 14
Motor Sport - 13
Boxing - 12
Horse Racing - 11
Water Sports - 11
Football - 10
Equestrian - 9
Rugby - 8
Tennis - 8

Thanks. Very interesting. Cricket's done very well, it seems. Sailing seems very over-represented and football under-represented. However those figures don't answer the question of whether there has been a decline in appearances by sportsmen/women over the decades.
