I'm posting now, for the second time this year (GASP!). This time is not upsetting, just an update and a possible favour request. I'm going to be working on going back to University for an M.A. or possibly beyond in psychology. I had a few classes in child and developmental psycholgy, but not much on regular psychology. Your best course of action would be to contact the Psychology Department of the University you want to apply to for a complete admissions packet - including a list of required graduate courses for the various types.
Warning: more and more, universities are going to online-only class lists/bulletins and registration so be sure to find out if they are doing paper or online admissions.
As for books, chances are that people who took psychology classes in the past will use different books than the required books for today's psych classes. This is because publishing houses are constantly pushing profs to use their NEW and IMPROVED texts rather than the old ones. Even if you get a list of books used in the psych classes of that particular university, by the time you actually apply for admission, get admitted and get registered - the prof may have already changed his/her book choice.
I know this is all sounds kinda discouraging, but asking the university of your choice about admissions requirements is the first step. The books can be found on the cheap (used) at amazon.com, depending on whether or not they are new(er). Also, you will need to take the GRE in order to do any kind of graduate work, so get yourself a study guide from the reference section of Borders or B&N and get to work!
