a couple of notes on ae prompts

Sep 10, 2014 11:06

Just some clarification, because we've been seeing quite a few extremely specific and epic-length fic requests being made. Please keep a few things in mind when leaving requests:

1. this isn't a kinkmeme! it is, at heart, a gift-type fest: you're making something for someone else, and another person will be making something for you. So please be inclusive with prompts--you want to give people as much freedom as possible to get inspired and creative and excited. (Within parameters, of course. Absolutely do specify general themes/tropes you hope to see, rating preferences, and serious do-not-wants and squicks--we want you to be comfortable with your gift!)

2. you may not get fic. Like last year, participants may create fic--but they may also make art, poetry, fiber art, sculpture, fanvids, and/or anything else. So if you write a prompt specifically tailored to fic, this will also be harder for someone to pick up.

3. there's no minimum length requirement. You may get drabbles, or, again, poetry. Like last year, no restrictions on this. So this is not the best place for a prompt requesting what amounts to a novel-length slowly-unfolding angst-ridden epic of self-discovery. This is not to say you can't ask--you can!--but be aware that this may correspondingly make it harder for someone to want to pick up this prompt. You may leave up to four prompts--we'd suggest that if you want to request an epic fic, you include one or two smaller-scale requests as well.

4. if you've left a prompt, you have agreed to make something for someone else. Everyone probably remembers this, but just in case! This rule's intended to ensure that we don't have people posting prompts and then vanishing--again, this is not a kinkmeme, but a gift-type fest. We're not assigning recipients because we want to encourage freedom of choice--but you must, once claims open, pick up at least one prompt of someone else's to fill.

That's all for now! Have fun!
