possible collective fic-writing thing? your thoughts?

Mar 06, 2013 16:25

So, several of us (oonaseckar, raffi, telperion_15, etc) were having a discussion about attempting a kind of collective round robin fic-you know, the type in which one person begins the story, someone else chimes in, a third person continues, you get the idea. Seemed as if there was a fair amount of interest-especially if the given word requirements per person were short, and all kinds of crack and hilarity allowed-so I thought I’d come up with some rules, or suggestions of rules, and post them here.

Comment with any suggestions for modifications! Or input about when this happens! Or just comment if you want to sign up! (Though there’ll probably be an official sign-up period after we find out if people're interested.) Here’s how I'm thinking it’ll work…

Rules!
1. Everyone who signs up writes a section. (basic, I know)
2. Word count minimum: 100 words. Maximum: 1000 words. (no, no one’s actually going to count; doesn’t matter if it’s 90 words or 1100, but don’t run away with the story-other people have to play too)
3. After sign-ups, I’ll post a schedule for when the sections are expected to be done. (see next point)
4. You will have a two day window to post your section. (for example, if the person before you posts theirs by March 21, yours should be up by March 23)
5. If you miss your deadline, you get skipped; and it’s now the next person’s turn. (message me and we can talk about it if you want back in)
6. The person who starts also gets a chance to pop in again last and bring it home. (for fairness’ sake)
7. Crack, hilarity, and general awesomeness all entirely welcome. (there’s already been mention of Flashdance, Chris Hemsworth, aliens, and tapdancing…)
8. Try, if you can, to leave your section with, if not a cliffhanger, a good jumping-off point for the next person. (“James opened the door to his room, stopped, and stared. He’d never been expecting that to be there….”)

What we need to know from you:
a. your name
b. whether you have some preference about going earlier or later in the story (if you want to be first/last, tell me! otherwise I’ll do it)
c. any input about when this all happens! We know people’re working on the Film Fest AU fics, due at the end of March; but the joy of this whole round robin thing is that everyone’s individual contributions are so short! We have two options: either make this happen soon-within the next couple of weeks-or do it sometime around the first week of April.

Thoughts?
