07 July, 2008 -- arrival in England
Our flight was delayed leaving New York, which delayed us getting into Heathrow. Word to the wise...do NOT take a flight that leaves the states in the morning and arrives in London late at night. The Heathrow Express was no longer operating so we had to catch a very expensive cab after waiting in line for over an hour for said cab...us and the whole flight had to catch cabs.
But we were still excited to be in England, even though it was too dark to see anything!
It was nearly 2 AM local time when we got to our hotel...and we had to get up early the next day to catch the train from Paddington to St Austell. We would find out days later that we could have booked a cab on the Navy's dime...only no one told us that fact before we left the states. Oh well, we had an early exposure to Paddington Station--which would come in handy for our anniversary trip! But I'm getting ahead of myself here...
