Movie Viewing Party

"'Wal-Mart: the High Cost of Low Prices.' It's a powerful exposé on the toll the Wal-Mart behemoth has taken on workers and communities across the country, and how we can help turn the tide. Wal-Mart is going into attack mode. The company has literally created a war room, staffed with political consultants who are working day and night to undermine ( Read more... )

Wow.

"But obviously, you don't care about poor people, as you seem the type willing to blow 5 dollars on a cup of coffee that actually only costed 20 cents to make because it says "fair trade" and gives 5 more cents to their workers instead of costing only the original 15 cents.

Talk about propoganda. If you were a local of Western Maryland, then you would know how important the Wal-Marts were to the economy around here, but it appears that you are oblivious of anything beyond your own little world"

Please don't make accusations about my character or whether or not I am oblivious to things. You don't know me or anything about my views- political, economic, or anything.

If you hadn't noticed, what I posted was simply a quote. It was the advertisement for the movie. I am a member of the Sociology club on campus and we were sponsoring a showing of the movie. I was simply letting people know about it. I never said anything about how I feel about Wal-Mart.

And, no, I am not a local of Westminster, nor did I ever claim to be. Not being local does not mean that I am "oblivious of anything beyond your own little world"

"You don't know me or anything about my views- political, economic, or anything. "

You made the topic. Obviously, if you didn't believe in it, you would have clarified or made that abundantly clear.

"Not being local does not mean that I am"

It means that you need to not be oblivious to the community around you and realize that hey, having such a piece is insulting to the community that WMC is a part of as Wal Mart paved the way for real stores to come into the area and restore the dying community that was destroyed by many Suburban people buying off the farm land and killing the tradition that was here, shopping 40 minutes away and not giving back, forcing the old families of Carrol County to go without food, jobs or anything, just so these spoiled little people don't have to live in a city with the black people that they claim to be so caring about.

Its hypocracy, plain and true.

Ok. You are free to make any assumptions about me that you wish to. I'm ending it here. It's not worth it anymore. I posted a quote, in quotation marks, to advertise an event that a club that I'm a member of was hosting. That's it. And frankly- I don't agree with most of the content of the movie. But I didn't feel in necessary to make that clear in an advertisement. This is because my views don't reflect the views of every member of the club or every member of the faculty that was sponsoring the event. Not once within that post did I say "And, I, personally agree fully with the views expressed within this film." Therefore, I don't believe that the post warrants your attack on my character. You're reading way too far into this.

If your views don't reflect the views of who you are posting for, please do not post them.

Its called a dissenting opinion, and any political group (which yours is, regardless of what you may believe) that forces anyone to hold an opinion is a fascist group that needs to be torn apart for attempting to control others.

Ok, just stop. No one is forcing anyone to hold any opinion. No opinions were posted. A movie advertisement, in quotes, was posted. That's it.

This is ridiculous. Just let it go.

Advertisements are the epitome of opinion.

Furthermore, they also help to steal other people's ability to make an objective opinion.

Ok. You are entitled to your opinion. Apparently I am not entitled to post about an event that the Sociology club is sponsoring. I'm sorry that you felt threatened by my post. Let it go.
