Because I loved being an Overall Lead for Leftovers.
Seriously.
For those of you who don't know,
Leftovers (LO) is a raiding community for World of Warcraft. The numbers down near the bottom of that page as of the time of this post are off - last week we suspended a significant chunk of the weekend raids to run our Anniversary event. Most weeks, it's up around 2,000 raiders. And this is the end of an Expansion Pack cycle - Cataclysm is just around the corner, and a lot of folks are starting to lose interest. By comparison, at this point in The Burning Crusade, we were 'big' at something like 4-500 raiders.
Anyway.
Being an Overall Lead for LO has been an incredibly fun experience. I can tell you this with total confidence, because in the 12 hours since I've successfully stepped down, my brain is already cheerfully spackling over all of the arguments with Toragan and Redfang that made me scream and bitch and sense PMs over to
Everraven frothing like a maniac.
However! I've been quitting for like... EIGHT MONTHS.
Seriously.
Back in like, November or so, I first told people 'guys, find someone to replace me'. Back in January, Fel and I both suggested someone who was 'Too new' to fit the criteria (which included 'new', I might add)... and I waited... and waited... and kept on making 'REPLACE ME! IS SHE STILL TOO NEW??' noises at Tora periodically, because he was the one objecting on the basis of 'too new'.
I should note here, that my Corp's CEO in EvE is also a former LO Lead, Kahlil. I told him about this in November. His response was: "You fail. Just quit. They're never going to replace you if you stay on." There have been periodic "So... they replace you yet?" inquiries, to which has replied, "Uh-huh... you suck at quitting."
Two weeks ago, she's finally not too new. Fel gets the ok to go and talk to her. But Tora asks her to wait until Wednesday to do it, so people have the chance to put the brakes on things one last time. Ok, great. Fel's all excited and shit, but wait until Wednesday. Ok.
MONDAY she goes to talk to the prospective OL. Along w/Quinn. And me. Because we're just too eager to do this - the new person rocks, and who the fuck listens to Tora, anyway? So Monday we talk to her. She's excited! She's interested! We apologize to her a lot because we've gotten her excited about a job she is going to come to hate, even as she loves it. But, we've gotta wait until Wednesday to tell everyone else cuz Tora'll get butt-hurt.
Wednesday comes. Fel forgets to let people know. Nobody else thinks of it. Thursday morning, Senzoo quits.
There's a big discussion going on about a sensitive topic, Senzoo decides his immediate, gut reaction that he did not feel able to filter is a bad one for an OL to have - not that his position is wrong, mind you, merely that an OL needs to have more self-control about shit and not go off half-cocked - so he quits. Effective immediately. No 'find my replacement' stuff. Just DONE.
Which would leave the OLs at 8 if I stepped down when my replacement comes on, and since we've already had 1 tied when we were briefly at an even number in the past... that's bad. So, I tell people I'll stay on. I tell Kahlil. Kahlil is having a bad day that Thursday.
Kahlil spends a good ten minutes just laughing at me. Over vent. He needs to hold down a goddamned push-to-talk button to do this. This is not 'sorry, forgot the mic was open'. This is sound mockery, followed by 'You so fail. Senzoo is better than you at quitting. How pathetic is that?'
And I can't argue with him. He's totally right about it. But at least I've improved his mood.
In the end, though, Senzoo decided he's not stepping down, and Alyxan got hired, and so... FREE!! FREE!!!
Oy.
