D. Ray Pate Night

Sep 08, 2005 22:15

Tonight was the annual Blackburn Institute D. Ray Pate Dinner (held this year at the Civil Rights Institute in Birmingham), at which all the new student fellows are formally inducted. I was thrilled to be inducted by Taylor Nichols; there's no one else I would have rather had do it. And to top it all off, the food was good, and so was the conversation. It was especially nice to get to chat with Karoline on the way back; she and I never get to talk anymore!

Also, Amanda kind of pulled me off to the side and pointed out that I'm in too many of her extra-curriculars (I've seen her at a meeting every night this week, lol), then we remembered that we're both German majors und so wir sollen mehr deutsch sprechen. Speaking of German, test tomorrow, so I need to be reviewing modal verbs and vocab . . . time to get on that!

Quote of the Day:
"Ask yourself every morning when you get out of bed, 'How will the world be made better by what I do today?' And after doing that for about a year, you'll find that the world is a better place."
-Dr. John Blackburn, at tonight's dinner [Karoline, by the way, is the only one on our van who has an answer to that.]

PS Mom is home now . . . many thanks to everyone who's been remembering her and praying for her!
