Should definately rent Heavenly Sword and Resistance 2 though, my personal picks to anyone to try. As well as Mirrors edge and Star Wars.
LittleBigPlanet is a great game and well worth a try if you have others to play with or you have a good imagination so you can create levels to. Even if you do not have the last, can still enjoy many levels you can get to online. A lot of fun and definately enjoyable, more challenging and fun than kiddish as it appears.
GTA4 was not that great I thought. Graphics were pretty bad and game got old after awhile. Most things in the beginning held an interest though. Not sure if they have patched since a few months back, but online was not that great.
Here is a chart I always found useful when looking at the differences between them (scroll down).

My choice would be the 40Gig, mainly because of what awntawn stated. You can keep a ton of songs on it, pictures, what ever you choose, but you really just want to delete anything you do not use after a period of time. Such as wallpapers, demos, trailers, movies you download. But the 40gig is discontinued? If something happens, you could not fix it, eh? If you are the type to download/buy movies online to watch, I would get the 80gig.

For games I'm probably not buying any of the ones you recommend hehe :p HS is not really my taste, I dun need any new shooters with gow2 now and killzone 2 soon, Mirror's Edge I can play on the PC for free, Star Wars is sort of cool but not for the current price, LBP is cool but more to fuck around with, not really for me and GTA4, I got that alrdy.
