Ipod quandary

Can anyone explain to me why my Ipod will randomly turn on and start playing music, despite the fact that I turned it off and slid the switch to "hold?"

Or even better, does anyone know how to make it stop?

EDIT: so it turns out my Ipod has an alarm clock. Problem solved!

Random mysterious nobody who doesn't know you from the mists of the internet here to help, because this same problem bothered him for a while:
You probably have an alarm set for some reason. Check out Extras-->Clock-->Alarm and investigate. This made me feel incredibly stupid when I figured it out. "Why does my iPod keep just starting and playing this playlist...at the same time...every day...? Oh shit."
