Well, the wedding went off about as perfectly as we could have hoped for. I have a lot to catch up on here at work, so I'm not going to write a full recap, but I may do so once we get the photos back. In the meantime, here are a few unconnected musings on the day.
I was expecting that getting married would reinforce how lucky I am to have Dianna, and it did. What I hadn't anticipated was how much it meant to have so many of our family and friends there to witness. It really drove home for me how very fortunate I am to have a great family, and so many good friends.
I'd been rather nervous about meeting Dianna's father, given his reaction to us moving in together before marriage. Once again, I was pleasantly surprised, as he turned out to be a really nice guy. In fact, I like all of her family that I've met so far. Her mom stayed with us for a few days before the wedding, and helped out a lot. I don't think our house has ever been cleaner!
The sunset that day was astounding. I had thought we were done with pictures when Chad came in, insisting that we had to take more. If the little viewfinder on his digital camera is any indication, the photos are going to turn out to be amazing. There is almost always a great sunset on New Year's Eve here in Tucson, but I think this was one of the best I've seen.
The Coyote Crossing bed & breakfast was a fantastic place to spend our wedding night. We rang in the New Year in a hot tub under the night sky. It was mostly cloudy, with a few holes serving as windows on the stars. And the clouds that were there served to reflect the some of the light back, and light up the desert. And it was just far enough from where we live that it did seem like we were getting away, but close enough that we had a short drive home.
I don't think I would have wanted to go on a long honeymoon right after the wedding. We spent two nights at Coyote Crossing, and took a day trip to Tubac and Aravaca Lake in between, and that was very nice, but we were both quite happy to get back home. With everything that we'd been doing the week before the wedding, it felt good to get back to "real life". Although we are both very much looking forward to a longer trip this summer.
