Science Fiction, Fantasy or Horror?
Science fiction. I mostly read science fiction but my favorite author is fantasy.

Hardback or Trade Paperback or Mass Market Paperback?
Mass Market mostly, but thats because that's what the book store has. I like trade paper back when I can find them if the author is worthy of it.

Heinlein or Asimov?
Heinlein (Starship troops!) but I have read a lot more Asimov.

Amazon or Brick and Mortar?
Brick and Mortar, I love to fondle books, just something soothing about perusing books.

Barnes & Noble or Borders?
Borders, but probably just because they are closer to home.

Hitchhiker or Discworld?
I have only read hitchhiker and was not overly impressed.

Bookmark or Dogear?
Bookmark, although this tend to be anything from the receipt to a price tag off new clothing or any other scape of paper laying around.

Magazine: Asimov’s Science Fiction or Fantasy & Science Fiction?
Never read either.

Alphabetize by author Alphabetize by title or random?
Author. I like to keep all of an authors works together on a shelf, assuming I get around to organizing them.

Keep, Throw Away or Sell?
Keep, all though I really should go through and weed out the one I will never read again. That last predator book is top of that list.

Year’s Best Science Fiction series (edited by Gardner Dozois) or Years Best SF series (edited by David G. Hartwell)?
Never read either one.

Keep dustjacket or toss it?
keep

Read with dustjacket or remove it?
removed

Short story or novel?
Short stories. They're like Cognac compared to wine.

It's been argued that "the single" (a one-cut vinyl recording in either 78 or 45 rpm format) was the medium that defined the most perfect expressions of rock: that the single is in fact that music's optimal form. The same has sometimes been said of the short story and science fiction. In the case of rock, I'm inclined to suspect nostalgia for a dead media-platform. In the case of science fiction, I think there may be something to it. It requires a very peculiar sort of literary musculature to write a very short piece of science fiction that really works.

If I ever did that, you'll find it here.

In any case, enjoy the patina.

-Preface to Burning Chrome, a collection of short stories by William Gibson

Harry Potter or Lemony Snicket?
Not read either and not sure I will, maybe Potter

Stop reading when tired or at chapter breaks?
Short chapters, chapter breaks; long chapters, when I get tired.

“It was a dark and stormy night” or “Once upon a time”?
It was a dark and stormy night. One upon a time implies "happily ever after."

Buy or Borrow?
Buy, libraries creep me out for some reason.

Buying choice: Book Reviews, Recommendation or Browse?
Browser, sort of like walking through a minefield with your mind. Need I say the awful predator book again.

Lewis or Tolkien?
Tolkien, probably my most favorite author of all time.

Hard SF or Space Opera?
Hard

Collection (short stories by the same author) or Anthology (short stories by different authors)?
Collection from the same author.

Hugo or Nebula?
Hmmm... don't know enough to say.

Golden Age SF or New Wave SF?
Golden Age, I love old SF, see the Gibson quote above. SF ages so poorly and thus make such excellent reading long after it was written.

Tidy ending or Cliffhanger?
I want to say Cliffhanger but more often than not I am more satisfied with a Tidy ending; if not at the end of the book at least at the end of the series.

Morning reading, Afternoon reading or Nighttime reading?
Night time before bed, but my favorite is to sit out on the front porch in the summer with my pipe and a good heavy book and relax; Wonderful!

Standalone or Series?
Both are good.

Urban fantasy or high fantasy?
High fantasy when I read it.

New or used?
New but I have bought used when the opportunity arises

Favorite book of which nobody else has heard?
probably not really unheard of but... Armor by John Steakley
