I open my eyes slowly reganing my strength. I blink a few times to get use to the light. Then I focus my vision on Calliope. Her cheeks are wet from tears. Her mascara is running over them. But she is smiling. I open my mouth to say something, but I realise I’m still intubated.
,,You paged?’’ I hear another voice. It’s Derek.
,,She woke up!’’ Calliope whispers, her eyes never leaving mine.
,,Arizona, nice to see you’re back!’’ Derek says after walking to my side. ,,We’re going to extubate. You know the proceedur.’’ I nod. ,,Okay, on the count of three. One, two, three.’’
I blow out the tube and immediately start coughing. Someone hands me a glass of water which I empty fastly before finally looking around the room. My parents are standing on my left side. Calliope, who’s still holding my hand, is kneeling on my right side. All my beloved ones .. no ..
,,Where’s Sophia?’’ I ask silently.
,,She’s with Mark. He picked her up from school.’’ Calliope answers. Her eyes are still glistening with tears.
,,She’s in school?!’’ I ask surprised. ,,What the hell happened?!’’ I feel myself starting to panic.
,,Honey, please calm down!’’ my mom says grabbing my hand. I look up at her and then back to Calliope. Her smile has faltered and a lone tear escapes her eyes.
,,There was an accident.’’ She begins. ,,You ran into a car. You nearly died. Twice. And then you fell into coma.’’ She pauses. ,,That was nearly three years ago.’’ She finishes looking deep into my eyes.
,,No ..’’ I whisper. My eyes widen in shock. My mouth drops open. Three years?! I missed three years?! This can’t be happening!
Suddenly the pictures of the accident flash through my mind. The car, the look of horror on the driver’s face, the shock ..
,,Arizona,’’ my father’s voice breaks through my memories. I turn to him. ,,it’s gonna be okay. You’re awake now and that’s the most important thing!’’ I nod silently.
,,We’re so happy that you woke up!’’ my mom says with a shaking voice. ,,We thought, we’d lost you, too!’’ I take her hand in mine and smile.
,,I was so scared.’’ Calliope whispers squeazing my other hand tightly. I look at her. She’s still kneeling on the floor next to my bed and looks down at our entwined hands.
,,We’ll leave you two alone for a while.’’ My mom says and kisses my hand before dragging my dad outside.
Derek steps to my now empty side and makes a few quick examinations.
,,Are you feeling good for now?’’ he asks.
,,Yes, I’m good.’’ I answer.
,,Okay, then I’ll come back later for further examination’’ he announces before he leaves the room giing me and Calliope a bit of privacy.

,,I missed you.’’ She whispers. ,,I thought .. I thought ..’’ Then she breaks down. I take her hand and pull her onto the bed next to me.
,,Ssh, I’m here. I’m awake. It’s okay.’’ I soothe her. ,,What else did I miss?’’ I ask when she’d calmed down.
,,A lot, to be honest.’’ Calliope whispers looking at me. ,,Sophia’s already in third grade. She’s grown a lot. Mark and Lexie are married and have a one year old son. Teddy is engaged. She met this guy while she tried to drown herself in alcohol after your accident.’’ I chuckle. ,,Addison and Sam are still together and Naomi has finally accepted their relationship. Meredith and Derek just got twins. Cristina is pregnant. Alex found himself a nice girlfriend.’’ Wow! That’s a lot! All of this happened in thre years? ,, Did I forget someone?’’ she asks more to herself than to me.

She looks down. ,,Well, I spent the last three years sitting at your side, praying for you to wake up, crying .. Mark took care of Sophia the first weeks, because I didn’t want to leave your side. But then somehow I found my way back to our home, mostly because of Sophia. She was suffering enough without you and I had to be there for her. But I came here every free minute I had. And I took Sophia here a lot. I feared she would forget you or lose her bond to you. But she always talked to you and told you about her adventures. She was stronger than me. The only day she was really down was her first day at school. I couldn’t distract her like all the other times she was so sad.’’ She confesses. ,,We missed you.’’ She adds and starts sobbing in my arms. ,,I was so scared that you wouldn’t wake up!’’
