Fanfic: A new life
Six hours, two surgeries, four emergencies I’m not used to this anymore. And that after only two weeks! Scary! I’m exhausted and hungry. Which is why I’m hurrying towards the cafeteria. When I arrive there, I spot a crowd in the corner of the room. I see Mark and Lexie, then Teddy, Bailey, everyone! I get closer, curious about what this is all about. Suddenly I hear someone laugh.
,,Calliope? What are you doing here?’’ I say before pecking her lightly and stroking Sophia’s head.
,,We thought, we’d surprise you, but as soon as we entered the hospital, Mark dragged me here and after a few minutes we were surrounded by everybody.’’ She laughs. All the people around us smile while Calliope hands me Sophia. Mark finally sends the others away so we are alone with him, Lexie and Teddy. I sit down next to Calliope across Teddy and Lexie. I look down at my daughter who’s playing with my scrub top. I tickle her nose lightly which makes her laugh.
,,Oh my god! She has dimples!’’ Lexie exclaims exitedly. I look up at her.
,,Yes, she does.’’ I smile showing off my own.
,,She’s perfect!’’ Calliope says proudly.
The conversation flows by easily though I have to admit tha I wasn’t listening at all. I’ve been too busy playing with Sophia. But now I have to get back to work. Though I would rather spend the day with my little family. But my patients are waiting. Right on cue, Mark gets up.
,,Girls, I gotta go! I hae surgery in thirty minutes.’’ He says and walks around the table to hug Callie and stroke Sophias head before leaving.
,,We’ll go back to our patients, too.’’ Teddy announces looking at Lexie who just nods. We say our goodbyes and Calliope and I are finally alone.
,,When will you be done?’’ she asks while I lay Sophia back into her arms.
,,If there are no emergencies, I’ll be done at two pm.’’ I answer sighing. Calliope takes my hand.
,,How about I’ll prepare a bath and a nice meal for you?’’ she suggests with a smile.
,,I’d say, that would be awesome!’’ I replie and kiss her lightly. I watch her put Sophia into her buggy. Then I get up and embrace her one more time before getting back to work. I can’t wait to go home!

Puh! Finally finished! It was a very hard first day at the hospital. But no one died on my watch, so I’m a good mood when I arrive at home, though it’s two hours too late. Suddenly Calliope pulls back and leaves me standing at the kitchen counter, eyes still closed and mouth slightly open. I open my eyes and find her standing at the diningroom table holding out a chair for me. I smile walking to her and taking a seat. We spend our early dinner mostly talking about our days. I tell her about my patients and she talks about how our daughter wouldn’t give her just one calm minute. The rest of the dinner we spend in comfortable silence. When we’re finished calliope sends me upstairs.
,,I’ve prepared a bath for you, honey, so you can relax a bit after your first day working.’’ She says. ,,I’m gonna clean the kitchen meanwhile and lok after Sophia.’’
