Ryan Wakes Up at 4:00 AM, Slams a Can of Soda, and Goes Back to Sleep Without Realizing

Happy Monday, everyone. The weather has gone from being ridiculously cold to being ridiculously cold and snowy, but aside from that, it hasn't been an exceptionally exciting day in any regard. I think the slowness is due to a mix of the weather, MLK day, and what I can only imagine was some sort of mass Packer-fan suicide after last night's game. There was a definite smell of cheese and sadness in the air this morning.

As I mentioned in earlier entries, I spent the weekend in Madison to visit a friend and see the play, Noises Off. My friend and I have been fans of the movie for years, so we were excited to finally find a local production, even if we had to brave -6 degree temperatures to get there. The lines from the play almost matched perfectly with the lines from the movie, so it was hard to avoid constantly comparing the performances of the local actors with the performances of Michael Caine, Carol Burnett, John Ritter, and the other major talents from the movie. Being so familiar with the movie, to the extent of being saddened by the tonal differences in the delivery of key lines, definitely made it more difficult to enjoy the play. John Ritter's character was played by a guy who was obviously a techie satisfying the performance requirement for his theatre-arts degree. Also, I think the director may have taken steps to be more family-friendly. I swear there was at least a little profanity in the movie, and the play could have used a well-placed "fuck" for emphasis. It is a sex-farce, after all; a dirty word or two wouldn't have scared away too many people. All complaints aside, it was a really good time. The actor in Christopher Reeve's part may have actually done a better job than Superman. Then again, Christopher Reeve was always a better activist than he was an actor. "Man of Steel" may have described his super-human powers, but I'm pretty sure it also had something to do with his flexibility in the range of parts he could pull off.

Aside from the play, I spent most the remainder of the weekend under as many blankets as I could find. It took me four hours to warm up from the ride home from Madison to Milwaukee, so I didn't risk going outside again.

weather, noises off, greenbay packers, madison, mondays, fucking cold
