Time is still broken & I think my computers are out to get me.
Too much going on. Last night I was at work late enough with Year End tasks, and was too tired, grumpy, tired, hungry, and tired to either go to the Saline Celtic festival or to the GBMojo concert. I spent 3 hours walking on the treadmill getting LJ to where I was less than 1000 entries behind. (Brain-dead stuff, not like driving, that I can do in my sleep.)
Today, I woke up almost too late for the walk (but I made it before they started), then I got lunch. Then I went to the Stilyagi picnic. Left early. Am not going to the SCfest, or to swing by & say hello to the folks who were camping not far from here. (I knew I didn't have time for camping, but hoped to say hi.) I got home about 4:30, and decided I would take my laptop that does NOT have a bad battery out into the back yard with some iced beverage & my hammock, and get further caught up on LJ before I leave for the next thing, um, 10 minutes ago. It was that or clambering into the room I'm in now and not getting any sun. I didn't knock anything over. Got myself set. I had left it such that if I could read the screen it was on, then reloaded at skip=950 I hoped I'd be good to go. Indeed, I saw enough to know I would have been.
I use this computer almost daily. But usually it's plugged in and inside. Today the first thing I noticed was that unless I curled the hammock all the way around me and got close, I couldn't see the screen. This is an Ubuntu only box. I launched Firefox, tried to go to the bottom to be sure there were things I recognized on the page, and it hung. Turned black 3 or 4 times before it moved at all. Then somehow I realized that the link I was trying to copy (to paste into an e-mail) had instead been followed. I tried to go back. 5 or 6 minutes later I could kind of see that there was a "browse the trash" screen up. I've never seen that before. I could read the hover-messages above icons, but my clicks had no effect. I wondered if I had accidentally touched the screen, initiating crazy-mode. I finally held the button in for 10 seconds, and it started the 1-minute count-down to shutting off. Turned it on again. The only time the mouse-click worked was when I selected my name as the entity to sign on as. Fine. So much for experiencing nature.
Came inside. Spent the next half hour playing on 1 IYT game, and trying to scroll down to the bottom on my LJ page. It seemed that everywhere from 20 seconds to a minute and a half it would decide it was time to go to sleep, the screen would darken, and it would stop responding. Very annoying. It had updated to the point that once I gave up and came here to my Windows machine, I did have to trick the system into letting me see some entries that had fallen off the bottom. In the next half-hour I got through about 60 LJ entries. Not even going to FB now, so despite going back to where things start looking familiar, I know I'll miss stuff. I do have to go to my evening party -- don't know how late I'll stay. I'm tired, so I might be home before I turn into a pumpkin.
