Puters playin jokes on me!

Wanted to go to a concert tonight -- at 19:30 -- but I'd really have had to leave the area no later than 18:30, and 17:00 would be better. There was a Major Task at work today -- but if I could have started it at noon, I might well have been done by then. The first step I kick off, and then wait 3 hours until I can spend more time in frenzied activity. No, it's not really something I could just put off for tomorrow. Guess what time I was allowed to start my Major Task? 16:30. No concert for me.

Got home. Did my exercises. Finished just in time to start my frenzied activity. Suddenly my mouse no longer worked. Popped the ball out, cleaned it, no joy. Figured the computer had frozen as the 3-finger-salute did nothing. So I used the 1-finger-salute.

Once it booted, I tried again, but still no mouse. I'm an old keyboarder, so I figured I'd be able to do that until I could find another rodent, but my keyboard didn't work either.

Okfine... I have a laptop.
But it was recently re-installed onto a new HD, and I don't yet have things like "SSH" installed on it.

And I needed the "Remote Access" -- which is blessedly built in on Windows... but I really needed to know the name of the system I needed to find. It's had several names, with several interesting bits inside... d3, i3, m4... I tried everything I could think of with no success. Google didn't help. searching on the work website I could get to didn't help. Finally I tried one more guess, b2, and that was right. Hurrah. I set it up to do the next bach of stuff, and while it was doing that I looked at the plugs on the back of my desktop, which I had turned off. They looked fine. I unplugged the keyboard and the mouse and plugged them back in. And now I have both a mouse and a keyboard, and indeed, that is where I am typing this.

computer, wry, work
