Don't know how much you know... Mira Grant is a psuedo for Seanan McGuire, who won the Campbell in 2010. From what I've heard, "Feed" was #2 (or #1 for the first 4 rounds) in line for the Hugo in 2011. She's a filker, an artist, and an extraordinary author.
It would be selling it short to say that "Feed" is a Zombie book, or a Horror story. Several people who like neither Horror nor Zombies have been enticed by "Feed". I'm not big on either, but it's a near-future God-I-Hope-It's-Science-Fiction story -- with a lot of all-too-plausible twists taken on our current world. She takes on news-blogging. She takes on Politics. She takes on Medicine. We've cured cancer. We've cured the cold. The law of unintended consequences has mated with Murphy.
Anyhow, one of the most wrenching scenes from "Feed" has been re-viewed in "Deadline", with a different set of givens, and something that I didn't think could get any more horrific or tragic just did.
If you find yourself with time, don't mind a high body count (which I really don't like, but the story was good enough I kept reading anyhow) and want to be consumed by a book, I highly recommend "Feed" and its sequel. It's a trilogy, and I understand that "Deadline" ends on a cliff-hanger, so if that will bug you, I recommend that you buy the first 2, and sit on them until the 3rd comes out.

I spoke a little bit, and vaguely (as is my wont), about "Feed" in http://mbumby.livejournal.com/84110.html.
