Step-by-step complete newbie to LJ and MBP guide
Completely new to everything? Follow our eight step guide below! Need more help? Feel free to contact a moderator.
Step 1:
Be sure the celebrity you want is not taken on the
masterlist, then go
here to create your journal. Generally the community's username style is some form of the celebrity's name but you are free to pick whatever journal name you feel is appropriate for your celebrity. LJ will email you to verify.
Step 2:
LJ will give you a tutorial of your journal's main page. This is where your own entries exist. Head to the top right for a drop down menu and click on PROFILE. This is your about section with information on your journal, who you're friends with, etc. Click on the top bar's EDIT PROFILE. From here you can upload an icon, add details, put a more accurate or simple name, etc. You must add a disclaimer to the BIO section. Please use - In creating this journal, the author has assumed another person's identity for the sole purpose of entertainment, without intending to obtain a benefit or to injure or defraud either the person whose identity the author has assumed, nor any reader of this content. - Feel free to also add an embedded picture of your celebrity or any other info. You also must link to mbpadmin under web page.
http://mbpadmin.livejournal.com/ is fine.
Step 3:
Click the top right link to POST NEW ENTRY. Although you can use the new interface many find it difficult to use so also try the 'Switch to old version' at the bottom left for another option. Either way you must add a sticky post with the disclaimer that will stay unlocked at the top of your main journal page. Use the same disclaimer used for your profile. To do so with the new posting interface be sure to check Sticky Post within the popup to post. Using the old interface the check box is up top beside the date.
Step 4:
Next head to the top right drop down again and SETTINGS. There are many useful links under Manage you might need later on. Within Privacy set Default Entry Security to Friends. Please check on 'Minimize my journal's inclusion in search engine results' and 'Minimize my comments' inclusion in search engine results'. It is advised to uncheck 'Promote my public entries on the LJ site', the Rating's feature, and 'Allow use my posts in LiveJournal Media'. Pingbacks are also advised to be disabled. You may also wish to check out Notifications to manage what you want to be alerted about and how.
Step 5:
Friend
mbpadmin by either hovering over the icon beside the name here and selecting 'add friend' or clicking on the icon and going to their profile to add them. Next
must_be_pop needs you to select 'join community' either by the hover over or profile again. It is encouraged to also hit the 'watch community' as well. Next register at
enter_mbp. Please read the information in that journal carefully. If we need you to do anything further to join we will reply and let you know.
Step 6:
Add people to your friends list and start commenting to them. Find costars, bandmates, teammates and anyone you'd like to get to know on the masterlist
here. Feel free to add as many or as few people as you'd like. LJ can be horrible at notifying people that you have added them so you may want to comment to people's disclaimer post letting them know you added them. Once you've been added back by people their entries will show up on your FRIENDS FEED. Although commenting to other entries is not required it is a good way to get to know people and connect with others and the community.
Step 7:
You may want to ask some of your new friends other ways that they communicate - for example, Discord, Google Hangouts, directly through email, etc - and then if needed, they may be able to guide you on what to do to create your own log in. This is a journal game, however nothing says that you're limited to only journal communication. Some also create posts locked to a certain person to chat privately. Feel free to ask anyone for a 'custom' for you.
Step 8:
You can introduce yourself over at
welcome_wagon at any time. It is not mandatory to post to Welcome Wagon, but people will be more likely to see your introduction and add you. It is mandatory to join and keep your membership with the main community
must_be_pop. That's where we decide on stuff like rules and activities. We insist that people join it so they can be aware of changes, but you are not obligated to 'follow' or 'watch' it on your friends list. You are still obligated to be aware of all the rules, past and present.
. . . And now you're playing. Have fun!
