OUAT season 3 finale reaction post rant. This is just about my feelings. I'm not going to get into the actual show until a later post. I couldn't help but type a slew of notes during the two hour finale. It's 8 pages. I'll post eventually, but I might try to turn it into something a little more coherent first. I feel like I need to wade through it first.
I liked a lot of things in the finale. I loved Emma in the Enchanted Forest. I loved her interactions with imp!Rumple. I loved the Neal flashback scene.
But there was a lot more to the episode than that. If it ended 15 minutes sooner, I could almost say it was my favorite episode of the season, and just ignore the plot holes and mostly minor character regressions they threw in before that.
But then the last 15 minutes happened.
I did like the episode. But it's a lot like my love of confetti cake and buttercream icing. I would eat a whole confetti cake with buttercream icing and love it to pieces in the moment. And then I'd feel sick.
That's how I feel about this episode. There was a lot to love, but I just can't get past some major problems with it. In the end, it makes me kind of nauseous.
And I could almost forgive the continuity errors. Almost. But there was too many other things that I can't forgive.
I'm not optimistic for season 4. I'm pissed off with the ending of season 3. It was so fucking close to being a beautiful thing, and it's the wasted potential that kills me. It's gone so far off the rails.
More later. In the meantime, I'm going to read Lily Spark's review (link below) and then try to get some actual work done.
