The first thing he noticed was his hair
It was a shade of orange,
Possibly combined with some type of red
The next thing he noticed, were his eyes
They were big, captivating, and sparkled.
The kind that you can’t help but be drawn too
And unknowingly stare at for a long time
And the last, and most precious, thing he noticed
Was his laugh and the smile that shined with it.
It was filled with so much joy
It made him feel abnormally happy,
Made his heart skip a couple of those essential beats
Made him want to laugh with him, and be with him
Forever
But, although he wanted to be with him
He needed to.
He made him feel important
Something he hasn’t felt in a long time
“Chulyong-ah”
The named boy slowly turned his head to face him
“You’re going to be okay, right?”
Chulyong gave a little laugh
Nothing compared to his sweet, contagious, one
He slowly shifted his body on the bed
Wincing from the pain,
“Changsun-ah, I already told you I’m not.”
Changsun’s mouth started to quiver
And he could feel the tears forming in his eyes
He lowered his head and said,
“I know. But there’s still some hope left...”
Chulyong gave a heavy sigh
“No, there isn’t.”
Changsun looked up, taking in Chulyong’s appearance.
The beautiful reddish-orange hair was gone
His eyes had lost its sparkle,
And the rims of his eyes were dark, black.
He grabbed his hand and knelt beside his bed.
“Chulyong,” Changsun said between tears.
“You promised you wouldn’t give up,
That you would fight and stay with me until the end
You said you would fight, and you promised…”
He wiped his tears with the back of his hand,
“You, y-you promised we would finish that song,”
Changsun gave a little laugh
“Where you rap and I-I s-sing.”
And travel to all those places we dreamed of going
All those adventures...”
Chulyong coughed, a painful cough
He smiled and said, “The song is coming along isn’t it?”
His breathing was becoming uneven.
Changsun noticed and squeezed Chulyong’s hand tighter
“Yeah, it-it is”
Chulyong’s smile slowly started to fade
And was replaced with a poor pout,
‘Stop crying, it just makes me feel worse.”
Changsun got up from the ground
Stood over the bed,
And gently placed a kiss on the younger boy’s lips.
As he broke away from the kiss,
Chulyong said,
“Now, you promise me”
Another cough
“Finish the song,
“Travel around the world and write all
Your adventures in a notebook.”
Changsun stared at the boy,
“They’re not adventures if you not there”
“Promise.”
Most of Chulyong’s strength was used in that one word.
Changsun nodded,
“I-I promise” he said.
As those last words were said, Culyong’s eyes
Slowly started to close,
And the firm grip on Changsun’s hand, was gradually
Starting to become loose.
“I promise”
