“Why can’t you understand I love you, SeungHo?” ChangSun asked, tears falling down his face. He quickly wiped his face onto his high school uniform jacket sleeve. “I have for so long already…”
“I’m not into guys, ChangSunnie. I’m still your best friend though, okay?” SeungHo replied, putting a hand on his hoobae.
ChangSun looked at the floor, simply nodding. “I’ll show you,” he thought, silently walking away. He skipped the rest of the school day, wandering until he found an unfamiliar area to most students, but he had recently been snooping around. He went into a run-down looking shop and went inside. “This will really work?” He asked the man behind the desk, holding a book he had been looking at for a couple weeks now.
The man behind the counter nodded, “guaranteed. Hand over a hundred.”
“Yesterday you…” He shook his head, deciding not to fight this man over pricing, and handed over the majority of his allowance from the past month.
He exited the shop and with a glance of his watch, hurried home. “I still have four hours before mom and dad gets home.” He muttered to himself. Once inside his room, he locked the door and opened the book. He took a breath, and began setting up what looked like a séance, but he wasn’t summoning just a ghost.
After only a few minutes of intense chanting, a large, evil looking man seemed to float in front of ChangSun, looking at him as if he didn’t want to waste his time on a mere mortal.
ChangSun nervously looked at him, a contract suddenly appearing before his face.
“In order to gain the attention of the target of my love, Yang SeungHo, I vow to give up one possession of mine. Lee ChangSun.” ChangSun read allowed, then with a shaky voice, asked, “What am I giving up?”
The man spoke, and it gave ChangSun chills with every word, “It is of my choosing. If you are willing to give, you will get.”
“I am willing,” ChangSun replied, a new determination in his voice, he tried finding a pen, but suddenly felt a pain on his finger. He looked at it and saw it was bleeding, and he pressed the finger against the contract.
Just as suddenly as he came, the man disappeared.
Joon woke up the next day to SeungHo waiting to walk to school with him, and in his heart he was happy. He also found himself having slept with almost a third of his classmates by the end of lunch.
Joon no longer went by ChangSun, and life was so different and so similar at the same time.
“Hyung, having the door to the bathroom wide open is like inviting us to join you.” CheonDoong groaned as he grabbed his toothbrush.
Joon peeked out from the shower curtain, grinning at CheonDoong suggestively, “Did it work?”
CheonDoong just peeked up at Joon while squeezing toothpaste on the brush, “Try SeungHo or Mir, not me.”
Joon sighed and returned to washing up, not long after hearing CheonDoong leave, he felt arm snake around his stomach. Joon smiled widely and turned around, although the circumstances had changed, his heart was still reserved for the man in front of him. He let SeungHo pull him in for a kiss, and not long after, they were conjoined together in the shower.
At night, CheonDoong and SeungHo would share a room together, their beds right next to each other to make one large bed. CheonDoong would sneak cuddles from the man of his affections while expecting no feelings in return, just sex every once in a while when SeungHo couldn’t get it from Joon for whatever reason.
CheonDoong was deep in thought, SeungHo seemed so… carefree. Doesn’t he know what he did? Joon can’t possibly be happy the way he is. “SeungHo hyung, do you even understand the sacrifice Joon gave to have you?”
“What?” SeungHo asked, pulling away from the younger man to better see him.
“I mean, Joon hyung literally sold his soul to the devil to be loved by you.”
“He didn’t sell his soul, he sold his loyalty.” SeungHo replied simply.
“He made a deal with the devil nonetheless. But you treat him as a play toy. Have you ever tried loving him?”
“I have CheonDoong. I told him we would get together, and he could be my boyfriend. Do you know what happened?”
CheonDoong turned to look at SeungHo, curious as to this untold part of their history.
“Joon got his loyalty back, and I was uninterested in men, so we went back to how we are now. The problem is he made a deal with the devil, he didn’t think of a way out of it. Joon is literally stuck as he is. He has no choice but to be like this if he wants to keep me.”
CheonDoong furrowed his eyebrows, “That’s not fair; there should’ve been a way out of it.”
“It’s the devil; there is no way out of it. What’s it matter to you? If I got with Joon, you couldn’t have me.” SeungHo replied simply, his eyes closing wearily.
“I just feel like hyung is miserable in his life.”
“He ain’t miserable, he’s happy. Enjoying every minute of it…”
Joon curled into bed, the clock shining a bright 4:00 a.m. as he buried his face into his pillow. Mir was fast asleep, tired from escapades with Joon earlier in the night. The singer turned to face the wall, wrapping his arms around himself as if he was cold. So stupid, if I could only give up at least one of them… He bit his lip, holding back tears that no longer would fall. It didn’t hurt anymore, he had no reason to cry; after all, he had SeungHo now, didn’t he?
That was what he wanted, wasn’t it?
He choked back a sob, attempting to pass it off as a cough in case Mir heard him come in.
Since high school, he had sleep with a countless number of people, all the time having SeungHo by his side to cuddle with once he got home. Now, he felt more alone than ever. I didn’t understand this loneliness with stupid unrequited love. SeungHo was willing to stay friends… I should have accepted that. He growled to himself.
The next morning, Joon didn’t look like he lost an ounce of sleep, sitting on the couch reading when the second person to wake up came into the living room.
“Hey G.O.” Joon cooed to him, and G.O. simply rolled his eyes.
“One time is enough. I have no interest in you Joon.” He told him for the one-millionth time.
Joon looked at him like he was hurt, but in his eyes was air of familiarity with the conversation, “Don’t even give me a chance, sheesh…” He joked lightly.
By mid afternoon on a day off, SeungHo found himself holding Joon on the bed, both of them in only pants, when suddenly, he looks at Joon, as if finally seeing him for who he was, and with a caress along his cheek, pulled Joon in for a soft, sweet kiss.
Joon looked at him curiously, “What was that for?”
“I can’t do this anymore Joon. I don’t want to see you suffering like this, please stop doing what you’re doing.” SeungHo begged.
By the next morning, Joon was confused. He had had sex once the day before and not at all that night. In fact, he had no urge to go out and seek it, either. He shook his head, returning to the book he had been reading the day before.
Once SeungHo woke up, Joon felt his heart leap, and he felt like he was in high school again. Oh no… Joon quickly put the book away and went to SeungHo, planting a hard kiss on the leader’s lips, only to receive one in return.
“Good morning to you too, you can’t seriously want-”
“SeungHo, we did it!”
“Did what? You know I don’t think right before coffee.”
“The contract! It’s broken!” Joon’s smile was wider than it had ever been, and he grabbed SeungHo and pulled him into a bear hug.
“Breaking bones…” SeungHo muttered. “What do you mean?”
Joon shook his head, his eyes wide as he tried to think of what happened, “I don’t know, it must have been something you said.” He thought of something and rushed into his bedroom, all but dismantling his desk until he found a parchment-type paper with fancy writing, a blood-stained thumb print at the bottom of the page. Joon once again tore apart his desk until he found a magnifying glass, then looking over the document muttered, “there’s small print in the border here.” He told SeungHo, who was looking on curiously from the bedroom door.
“This contract will become void and the truth will return if there is a cover up relationship. However, if there is true love between Yang SeungHo and Lee ChangSun, then the contract will become void, and Lee ChangSun will regain his loyalty.” Joon read to SeungHo.
Joon fell onto his back, kicking his legs in the air excitedly, “We did it, we did it!” He quickly sat up and looked at SeungHo. “Last time it didn’t work because we were only pretending!”
“And now it’s because I truly love you? I guess you have CheonDoong to be excited with as well. He was the one who encouraged me to look beyond your stupid expressions.”
Joon tilted his head to the side, going up to SeungHo and wrapping his arms around his waist. “Don’t be so bitter, I’m all yours now!”
“God, can’t you go back to normal? This is weird!” SeungHo asked, shoving Joon off, but a giddy smile was teasing his lips.
