Length: 1240 words

Summary: Watching people who haven't slept in a while is hilarious. Also Taekwoon doesn't like mornings

Waking up early has never been Taekwoon’s forte. Waking up early for class is generally not in his book, but he thanks his (not) so lucky stars that Wonshik is his roommate and works the early shift for Starbucks when his classes aren’t in the mornings or he would never make it to his 8am classes. ‘How anyone can possibly be awake at this point is beyond me.’ he thinks to himself as he gets out of the shower, drying himself off.

He checks his phone only to curse at it. ‘It’s already 7:25?! How in God’s name was I allowed to take such a long shower?!’ Though to be fair, he muses to himself, his law classes have been pushing at the frays of his sanity and he can’t wait for summer break. He reminds himself it’s only a few months left. And then reminds himself he’s going to be late for class if he doesn’t move soon. He won’t be able to make coffee for himself with this much time left, so he decides to beeline toward the Starbucks on campus because at least he knows Wonshik is working and that Wonshik isn’t slow.

As he speed walks to the campus, and to his intended destination, he hears something akin to crying. Not willing to give his full attention, being pressed for time and all, he side-eyes to find a brunet male hunched over what looked like a spilled drink to him. Frowning slightly, he shakes his head, pulls his ear buds out, and pushes the door open with his shoulder.

Taking in the delicious aroma, he meanders toward the counter, where he nods to Wonshik. “The usual.” He mumbles softly to Wonshik, who grins and nods. “D’yknow who the kid on the ground outside is?” Taekwoon asks softly, bowing his head ever so faintly, trying hard to not let the slight concern show on his face. I don’t have enough time to show concern. Even though he is cute- no. I can’t be late to another class.

He hears Wonshik grunt, and looks up to see him shaking his head as he prepares his drink. “Damn kid has been up for at least thirty-six hours, from what Hongbin told me, working on his business project. Lord knows how he’s still functioning right now.” He stops in his tracks, and looks Taekwoon in the eye- who is wide eyed at this point because thirty six HOURS?! -and asks, “You didn’t say he was on the ground, did you?”

Taekwoon tries hard to not show his laughter, but his shaking shoulders give him away. Hongbin. His name sounds familiar. “I guess he tripped or something. I don’t know. I’m not awake enough for this. Who is Hongbin anyway?” He mumbles, giving Wonshik the correct amount of money for his coffee. “I’ll go see to him in a little bit, once people start to leave. Hongbin is the flower boy Hyuk has been pining over for weeks now; you know he doesn’t shut up about him. Good luck in class though, hyung.”

He nods, and makes his way to exit the café. He looks to the boy, who is still on the ground, and resists the urge to laugh out loud. Calm down. He hasn’t slept in a while, from what Shik said. Cursing to himself under his breath, he pulls his phone out of his pocket with his free hand. ‘7:48. If Hyuk saw me doing this I wouldn’t hear the end of it.’ Against his better judgment, he goes back into the Starbucks. “Whatever the kid on the ground ordered, give me another one.”

Wonshik isn’t able to conceal his surprise when he hears the order barked out at him. He looks at his watch. He knows his hyung has less than ten minutes to make it to class. He smirks devilishly. ‘Hyung really has a soft spot for cute things, huh.’ Without thinking too much into it, he makes the requested drink. “It’s on the house” he says, smirking at his blushing hyung. “Don’t utter a word of this.” Taekwoon threatens under his breath, light enough for only his roommate to hear. His threat is responded to with a bark of laughter. “Yeah hyung, will do!”

Rolling his eyes and shaking his head- hoping his face will stop looking like a tomato- he walks back outside. The boy in question on the floor at this point has stopped crying, thankfully, but he still looks pitiful. At closer inspection, he notices the boy with glasses- he didn’t notice that before, how did he miss that? -in a gray cardigan and red collared shirt, in a kneeling position over his spilt drink with black pants dirtied by the ground beneath him.

Feeling slightly bad, but still trying so hard to not burst out laughing at this extremely ridiculous situation, he nudges the boy’s shoulder with his knee. Gaining the boy’s attention, he sees the boy is about to say something when he crouches down to his eye level and leaves the new drink right in front of him on the ground. He nudges his head toward the drink, and begins to stand up when he hears the boy speak.

“T-t-thank you for the d-d-drink, b-but I can get another o-on my own.” Taekwoon takes a moment to relish in the sound of the boy’s voice. It’s gorgeous- deep and soothing, he could enjoy listening to the sound for hours. But the hours turn to milliseconds when he realizes he still isn’t in class. Damn you Professor for marking our tardies as absences. He shakes his head, and smiles ever so slightly at the now pouting human. “You looked like you needed it sooner than later.” The boy in turn flushes, hiding his face in his hands.
He thinks he’s hearing things, so he asks the boy to speak up. “I said thank you for you kindness. I needed it, I think.” Said boy in glasses now stands, holding the drink Taekwoon gave him. He takes in the fact that the boy is just a few inches high of his own height.

Nudging his head towards the cup, Taekwoon asks “Not into coffee?” Again, the boy flushes, but mutters softly “I like their chai tea. It’s really refreshing.” Taekwoon takes a look at the boy, who is pointedly not looking at him.

“Am I…allowed to ask you name? To put a name to a face, at least. I’ve seen you around campus.” Taekwoon speaks lowly, realizing last minute how creepy he sounded and has to stop himself from running away, his face feels so hot. God how stupid can I be.

“It…. it’s Jaehwan. Lee Jaehwan, Mr. Lifesaver. I’d never be able to finish this midterm project without something to keep me awake.” The boy says quickly and warmly finally looking at him, and Taekwoon has to bite the inside of his cheek to not smile. The boy is too cute for his own good. “Taekwoon. Pleasure to meet you, but I need to get to class. Good luck with your project, and try to get some sleep. You look like you desperately need it.” He says as he begins to walk away, smirking at the boy’s body language- flushed face, trying to hide behind his cup. “T-thanks hyung! I promise I’ll pay you back for the coffee!” Jaehwan half yells, half mumbles to the figure walking away. ‘Cute. Too cute for his own good. Maybe Sanghyuk knows more about this Jaehwan.’ Taekwoon thinks to himself, smiling as he walks to class. He isn’t even bothered when he realizes he walks into class fifteen minutes late.
