#29; The Kindness (or not) of Strangers (1 of 100) mbeancntr May 31 2010, 15:09:50 UTC
No cell phone reception, a blistering hot day, and a smoking car engine led to the arrival of the stranger in the white Acura. Aurora slipped into his air-conditioned car, aware this could be dangerous but sometimes one had to rely on the kindness of strangers. She discovered her Good Samaritan liked to talk - with a hand that was forever bumping her arm or skimming her leg. When he offered to stick around so the mechanic didn't screw her, she knew what was on his mind. She offered him some money for his hospitality and faced the mechanic alone.

“I’ll make him all sorts of jealous,” Jose vowed, winking at Aurora as he gyrated his hips.

No one saw Mike in the doorway. Soundlessly, he walked up behind the Patrick Swayze lookalike and squeezed his broad shoulders. "Just watch your hand placement, Garcia."

"Holy Mother of God," Mia whistled, unabashedly ogling the stranger from the top of his six foot two sandy blond head to the tips of his spit-and-polished boots. “Where do I get me one of those?”

“Chicago. In the middle of a blizzard. Two HTs. Fifty hostages,” Aurora nostalgically listed.

“And I thought your job sucked.”

Aurora slid her hands down to Mike's hips, feeling their rocking motion. "I see Mia got a little restless." His questioning grunt caused her to clarify. "The dancing. She likes the way men's hips sway." She leaned closer, fitting her body intimately against his. "So do I."

He gripped her shoulders and reluctantly repositioned her. "Darling, unless you want to be embarrassed, don't do that." Her flirting giggle prompted, "You keep this up and we may not make it out of the parking lot."

"At least you have a big truck."

He growled inaudibly. "What do you say we leave?”

Henry moseyed toward the road as Mike returned to the porch, flowers behind his back. "I had to get something from the truck. Your neighbor surprised me then gave me the third degree."

"Once a cop, always a cop," she replied, trying to peer around Mike to see what was in his hand.

He shifted his weight to keep the flowers hidden. “What kind? Interrogator?”

"Homicide for over thirty years. He’s a good neighbor to have around. Never know when I might need his expertise or his protection.”

“So you sent him to grill me, eh?”

“I never said that.”

#63; Picture of ice cream in the dirt (5 of 100) mbeancntr June 4 2010, 23:07:33 UTC
Mike ordered two ice cream cones at the ice cream stand as Aurora selected a cool spot under a shade tree. A smile settled on his lips as he observed all the happiness ice cream created until he heard a wailing little boy, who had dropped his cone in the dirt.

“Ma’am, add an extra cone to my order.” He handed her some additional money. When he received his frozen delights, he walked over and handed the chocolate ice cream cone to the child. “Here you go, little man. This is no place for tears.”

“For me?”

“It’s my treat.”
