weekend

It was M's 13th birthday on Saturday.   My youngest sister's boys spent the night.  There was a rousing networked game of Age of Empires, a long running pine cone fight, hours of plotting and planning for the next D&D game (which will happen after hockey is over, apparently, and before baseball-- my nephews are in very time consuming sports), and  much Much MUCH eating (like locust).  They plowed thru 2 big pizzas, an entire chocolate-cherry triffle, 2 1/2 boxes of cereal, all the snacks in the house except some pineapple, all the frozen quick food,  a 5 lb bag of potatoes (baked in the microwave with cheese) and a box of Ramen.  (Boys aged 13, 11, 10, 8)

Kate's friends used to decend like locust, too.  We have another 10 years of teenagers eating... we're going to have to get a second mortgage to feed them when both are teenagers.

M got a new MP3 player for his birthday.  I spent a couple of hours putting "Classic Rock"  on it (John Mellencamp, Queen, Bob Seager, Journey, etc).  He's been very happy.  Thanked me and told me it was the best birthday present ever :)  He wore it to change the cat litter yesterday.  And he happily gave P my old one that he's been using, so P wants to  sit down tonight and put his "most favorite" music on it, particularly Alice's Restaurant.  (He likes the kill... Kill... KILL part.  And the part about the 8x10 color glossy pictures with circles and lines and arrows on the back), and the Shrek soundtrack and Bruce Hornesby's greatest hits and his Andrea Bocelli CD.  The kid has very eclectic tastes, often singing snatches of "I'm a little Tea Pot" mixed with "Un Amore Cosi Grande".

I gathered all my knitting works in progress into one basket (mostly) this weekend.  Sigh.  I have to get moving on it.  There's a ton of stuff in there.  And I'm sitting here looking at all the pattern books thinking about the next project.  I need to move them back upstairs to the book case, so I'm not tempted.
