Volunteer Work: Liberating People From Slavery

Sep 26, 2010 11:18

In a recent book I read, there is more people enslaved today than at any other time in history.  Even if it has taken different formats.  After learning the plight of mostly women who are traffic as sex slave by organize crime I have always wanted to do something to help victims in it. So when a friend invited me to volunteer for a non profit foundation that helps people after they have been rescued from the sex trade I jumped at the chance.

Law enforcement is usually on the scene first; but for the victims they go from being victimized by the criminal organizations to now being victimized by the rigid legal system. Our organization has a group of lawyers who help in those cases, but they need case workers volunteers to do intake and put together the portfolio so that they can quickly do a triage and work through them as fast as possible.

Technically I don’t have the time for it, but knowing I will make a difference is all worth it.
