There is this unchecked anger among the younger generation due to the economic crisis that is bubbling under the surface. They grew up believing that if they did the right things they would get at least as much as what their parents got. For those who did not do the so called right thing, they always felt that this is a country of second chances and that they would somehow figure out on how to make it. However given how unforgiving this economy is no such luck for either group.
The latter group is being pushed into moments of insanity. I have known those kids since they were very young and it breaks my heart to see them temporarily lost. Know two friends whose daughters in the early 20s out of desperation in one case was caught shoplifting. Then this other friend whose daughter after losing her job, her house, her marriage and hope itself, started escorting and drug running. It is my sincerest hope that they find themselves before they become permanently lost.
Should this anger among the young ever become organize it will create civil unrest that will make the 1960s a walk in the park.
In my journey I imagined that it was possible that I would lose some of the elders before I made it to the summit. Never, however did I imagined that we could also lose some of our young ones.
Now that I am reaching elder status I need to focus greater efforts with our young to inspire them to struggle against the odds, ignite their imagination on fire and be more accessible to them before they reach a point of desperation or temporary insanity.
