Illuminati: The Battle Between Science and Religion

May 25, 2009 11:32

I just saw them movie Angels and Demons and it was refreshing to see that the illuminati was accurately portrayed as a group from the 18th century focused on enlightenment and the illumination of the human mind.

The struggle between the church and the Illuminati although on the surface seeming to represent a struggle between science and religion; it was more a struggle as to who was going to have the greatest command of people’s minds and attention when it came to interpreting the world and the universe.  Contrary to popular literature Illuminati were never into world domination; but the people who spread such propaganda in fact were.

In modern times power groups be it political, military or even established business have always been deeply suspicious of knowledge driven groups as they fear that someone with a new technology could over power and replace them from their position in the food chain.  Sadly, scientist, innovators, writers and creators depend on one of the above groups for its funding, sustenance and development.

Although the movie did not delve into it there was a mention of stem cell research and the so called god particle.  Perhaps the Vatican discomfort with the movie is that it raises disturbing questions about its past, but also it actually presents its leaders to be far more open minded towards science than they actually are in real life.

If the agriculture model gave raise to nation state and religious power groups and the industrial revolution gave raise to different forms of religions, capitalism and the acceptance of science; wondering what kind of power systems will in fact emerge in the 21st century.
