Riley and I had an awesome 3.1 mile run last night (I'd planned to do 3 miles but decided to be geeky and make it 5K). We did an out-and-back on Shoal Creek, from Hancock to Northeast Metro Park and back. I felt good from the beginning but managed not to go out too fast, and over all I felt pretty good all the way. I was starting to feel a bit wiped out toward the end, but I think that was just because I'd developed a slight stich in my side, which I think would have gone away if I'd slowed to a walk for a minute (I didn't because I was so close to being finished). I'm not saying I'm going to kick ass on the 10K, but I'm feeling better about it now. This was our best run in ages! Now if I can just order some sub-60 degree weather with low humidity for next weekend....
My toe that I was afraid I'd broken over the weekend felt fine, and my new shoes (first run in them!) felt great. I didn't realize how worn out my old ones were until I put these on. I felt like I had brand new feet. :)
Splits:
Mile 1: 12:02
Mile 2: 11:44
Mile 3.1: 12:49
Since that last mile included the extra tenth, I do believe that's negative splits the whole way! :) Unlike last time I recorded splits, this time I measured only actual running time - I stopped the clock twice when I had to wait to cross the street, once to pick up poop, and once to let Riley get a drink. So these times show up as quite a bit faster than that run.
Oh, and I saw my first bluebonnets this week! Happy spring!
